You can just ask what the f word means to the person who used it in a reply to them if this is so important for you. Fact is, words lose and gain meaning that is different from their original. You can't just force everyone to stick to a single right one, even if it is technically correct.

Honestly, this is kind of silly. I'm a radfem(have also studied feminist theory in several academic classes), but I mean, what are you going to do to enforce this? You're not a mod. Even if you were, I would think it's futile to gatekeep the word. Every discussion often has to be repeated. Debates get repeated a lot: you'd be hard-pressed to find a completely original argument in any debate space; they're the exception rather than the norm. Does it make debate worthless? I don't think so. I don't care if I have to explain repeatedly to people what feminism actually is or what it means to me.

I wanted to make a post based on "The Feminine Mystique", how this is a bad book, how it falls in line quite well with the rest of feminist dogma that men are the class enemy of women, and how none of its predictions came true, some came sideways, and almost all came backwards; is Betty Friedan, the founder of NOW and the godmother of American second-wave feminism, feminist enough for you? Or is it only bell hooks because while being exceptionally stupid, she was also kinda pro-men, so shut up dudes? Is Simone de Beauvoir, who based her entire almost-Bible-sized rant on misreading and misunderstanding a couple male authors and who was among the first.. what was it, 8? women to graduate Sorbonne, feminist enough? Or is it still only bell hooks because shut up?

I guess my issue with your suggestion is that it achieves nothing. People who refuse to educate themselves on the many different kinds of feminism (or even that not every woman is a feminist) will just use another term they deem to be interchangeable. To add to this, I don’t think saying a word is a ‘right’ in the way you’re describing it.

Seeing that the larger movement in itself is extremely decentralized, I don’t think one definition has a claim over the other as not every feminist or feminist movement is correct. Mind you, I’m an intersectional feminist and I say this knowing very well that TERFs self identify as feminists and tbh, so be it. Feminism in itself was made to be decentralized and sure, a drawback is you do get messy branches but also, there is real growth and evolution in some feminist spaces as well because of this, I think.

There are a lot of women out there who, generally speaking (1) selectively demand equality, i.e. demand equality for women but only in situations where it's perceived to be beneficial; (2) have a strong tendency to blame women's perceived problems on male misbehavior; (3) spend a lot of effort criticizing, condemning, and belittling men and things associated with men; (4) push for public policies which, generally speaking, benefit women at the expense of men; etc.

This is a real, observable phenomenon.

So the question I ask is what word could or should be used to describe these women. For me, the obvious word choice is "feminist." And it's worth noting that -- generally speaking -- feminists are nasty selfish destructive people.

Now, some people object and say that using the word "feminist" for such people is unfair to Real Feminists who are not nasty or mean-spirited or selfish or hypocritical. The problem is that in practice, Real Feminists are practically non-existent.
