Trauma from violence is real, and I respect that. But, if you've never been a victim of it in the circumstances you describe, and your fear is based on stories you've heard, that fear is your responsibility. Male violence is a real aggregate statistical phenomenon, but describing it as an “epidemic” can become rhetorically loaded rather than analytically precise. Men, on average, do commit more violent crime than women across most societies, and that pattern likely reflects a combination of biological predispositions, socialization, status competition, environmental pressures, developmental factors, and situational circumstances. That is probabilistic, not deterministic.

At the same time, this phenomenon cannot be understood only through the lens of the modern environment. Historically, many civilizations and pre-modern societies were patriarchal and organized around warrior cultures in which male aggression, conquest, and martial values were socially institutionalized and often celebrated as part of the broader ethos of those societies. Because this pattern appears recurrently across history, it requires systematic analysis of causality rather than simplistic moralization.

None of this means men are “inherently violent” in an essentialist sense, nor does it negate the existence of female violence or male victimization. It simply means that aggregate behavioral differences between sexes exist and should be analyzed seriously rather than reduced to ideological slogans. Given both humanity’s evolutionary history and the long historical centrality of warfare, territorial conflict, and status competition, the existence of higher average male violence should not be treated as a shocking or inexplicable phenomenon, even if modern media discourse often frames it in emotionally charged ways.

Over 40 years, 70% of my own experiences of violence were primarily female verbal violence - this is my experience, maybe that varies with others but I am not going to pretend otherwise.

Using the word "epidemic" to describe something that isn't as prevalent as the word suggests is an attempt to elicit an emotional response instead of a logical one.

It's the same language used by scammers and fraudsters to get people to spend money to solve problems they don't have.

In my life, I have ,.in-person, witnessed men fight twice in more than forty years.

Men have been far more cooperative and interested in team work in my experience.

I have seen, probably more than one hundred incidents of women striking or otherwise battering men. When men were battered by women there was also always an excuse to justify it.."he should have listened," or, "he shouldn't have made her mad," or any other bullshit where society justify female abuse of males and even treats it as humor. Where female abuse and violence is often blamed as males.

Imagine if people told a woman that was just physically abused by a man, " well, don't maker him mad." I have heard the opposite several times before, "just don't make her mad and she won't hit you." That's pure fucking insanity.

It's not too much to expect people to not hit each other regardless of their sex. Yes, female violence is accepted then blamed on the men.

It doesn't really matter what you say, a lot of them will just never get the point. Like when you say that while men may be the primary aggressors in violent crimes, men are also the primary victims most women will just go "aha! So you agree that men are far too violent and it needs to be changed!"

Historically we live in the safest time in history for men and women, but many women seem to believe that creating a utopia where no one ever gets hurt is actually possible. The only way that can happen is if you take away free will completely.

I hope this sub allows civil discussion from people with other viewpoints, because that’s all I want – civil discussion.

“Epidemic” doesn’t always refer to a disease. By definition, it can also describe a sudden and/or widespread occurrence of something undesirable.

Of course, you’re absolutely right: anyone can be violent, and not all men are violent.

However, it is true that men are the main perpetrators of violence against women, men, children, strangers, rivals, civilians, partners, family members, and themselves – disproportionately so.

Naming this phenomenon is not a “deflection from the fact that there’s also female violence against men, boys, women, and girls”. It is simply naming something that has been observed.

It’s important to identify harmful things because it’s the first step to finding a solution. The next steps would be “why is this happening?” and then, “how can it be mitigated?” followed by deciding on a plan of action and then implementing it.

The reason male violence has its own spotlight is because it is its own phenomenon, and it is a disproportionately larger issue than female violence. As humans, we have always and will always prioritise our focus and efforts according to the scale of an issue.

Perhaps one day, male violence won’t be as much of an issue and we can focus more on violence in general, from both sexes. But as it stands, one must take priority.

Edit: I want to make it clear that recognising male violence as a disproportionate phenomenon doesn’t mean female violence and the victims of it should be ignored, gaslit, belittled, or not prioritised. It means different patterns of violence can be named and addressed at the same time, while still being honest about scale.

I like to say how many women have been physically abused by men? How many of those can be verified. I knew a ton of women that claim to be but when you look into it most were lying.

Now how many men do you know that have had their social and financial lives ruined by women, either by false claims or taken financially in the courts. I know a whole lot. That's part of being a man- you see all your peers financially ruined by men.

My ex used to be friends with a group of women and all of them had tales of the physical abuse they'd been through. They'd try to outdo each other so their stories got more and more unbelievable each time they told them. Getting abused by a man is high value in the community of women so they all come up with ways they have.
