Men, the movie that came out in 2022. Like every single male character is played by the same actor and they all show different elements of what feminists would have you believe is toxic masculinity. Honestly movies are great way to show misandry is a lot more casual and so lowkey exposed in the daily diet of every westerner that we don’t even know we’re getting it if we don’t know what to look for

Midsommar. The boyfriend is shitty and I have zero problem with having shitty male characters. However, they somehow manage to show him drugged and raped and play it off as cheating. Then he is burned alive, basically as punishment for it. The way SA towards men is only treated as serious if it was perpetrated by men (not horror, but the early scene in One Battle After Another is a perfect example) is wild. I really hope that in a couple decades we will look back at this stuff with the same embarrassed disgust that the early 1980s rapey raunchy comedies like Porkies and Revenge of the Nerds are viewed with now.

Not really horror, more like thriller/true crime but if you've ever seen the Lifetime channel, it's kinda hilarious, it's like misandry 24h. Almost all of the villains are men, even gay men (like i saw 2 different stories about gay villains), the victim is always a female, and written to be the typical empowered gal hollywood trope, and even when a guy is actually nice and helpful they are always portrayed as being kinda dumb or incompetent. even when they are obviously making smarter choices than the bog-standard female lead that is always getting herself in trouble, the script almost screams at you "Guys are useless, right?!"

So, this isn't entirely on the topic of the thread (so my apologies) but I've wanted to bring this up ever since the Obsession "dialogue"--i.e. another theater of the gender wars--started. And it is somewhat relevant.

I dislike the sci fi horror movie Blood and Snow because I think it is misogynistic in the way certain other modern movies are subtly misandric, but one thing I do love about it is the way it portrays a particular issue a lot of men have when relating to women/girls and how it can cause a lot of problems.

Spoilers for the movie below

The crew of the station had a decent chance of winning against the alien, but things permanently tipped in its favor due to a single decision by the commanding officer.

Rather than kill the researcher who was possessed by it, he took the side of the main protagonist who was in love with her and thus wanted to save her life rather than just kill the host and invading organism when they finally had it weakened and at their mercy.

Why did this---up until that point---seasoned and capable leader make such a catastrophic decision?

Because he had lost his wife to cancer some time ago, and he projected the helplessness he felt watching her slowly die onto the current situation and acted out of sheer emotion.

My memory is a little foggy on the specifics of this detail, but I recall the commander actually having the insane audacity to lecture the dissenters about what an honor it is for a man to to save his female loved ones from disaster, and that making it worth the risk.

Anyway, his decision to attempt to separate the invader and host rather than press their victory was the first domino that led to the collapse of their small campaign against it.

And considering the alien's biological nature and its personal ideology, likely resulted in the extinction of all sexually dimorphous life on Earth.

I don't usually like to pick out gender/political themes in media unless they are blatant since it ruins my enjoyment pretty quickly.

But that entire plot direction felt like an obvious reference to a pheneomon I've noticed time and time again.

Many men have a tendency to project their female loved ones (daughters, wives, sisters, mothers, etc) onto any woman or girl in their presence.

This isn't necessarily bad by itself but it becomes so when this drives the men question to metaphorically take up arms to defend the interests of these random women. No matter how ridiculous or outright immoral the situation is.

I know I'm not explaining this well so forgive me for that.

Maybe it was just me drawing parallels where they don't exist, but considering how many other references to certain gender politics points there were in that movie, I wouldn't be surprised if this was yet one more.

What a great topic. I have noticed that horror movies have more final girls and final boys. Also as a whole, films in my opinion run on misandry. When there is development in the plot, if something negative is happening, its 99 percent of the time caused by a man.

A big difference is that when characters like this are pathetic terrible women, they're always given a justification: trauma, society, mental illness, etc. This is never extended to male characters. They're bad or pathetic or whatever because they are. Modern horror, especially prestige horror, is misandrist far more than any horror even slashers were ever misogynist.

Interesting topic.

Not a misandry example but it's interesting just how differently is it viewed compared to misogyny.

Just the other day I was reading comments on a few horror movies I've rewatched recently and there were lots of comments about people being unable to finish the movie because of "misogyny". There are literally males brutally murdered by a woman in the movie but what made it too hard for them to watch was misogyny. That's where they draw the line and stop watching the movie. Because apparently the director is an "edgelord" who "sees women as sex objects". They are absolutely fine with brutal murders, gore, but women being objectified? Gotta turn that movie off.

Lots of comments like that with tons of upvotes. There was one guy who challenged the idea only to be told "women have to deal with this in real life, it's a disgusting topic, we don't want to see it in movies too". As if most of what you see in movies does not happen in real life? Somehow misogyny, cat calling etc is one of the worst and most despicable things that can happen to a human.

And yet, even the things that they claim "the patriarchy hurts men too", they will happily watch a movie with men suffering. Then it's just a movie.

Not necessarily horror, but I had to stop watching after the first episode of the tv show "You" because it was so obvious to me how misandrist the writers were. Every single male character (at least in the first episode) is a horrible abuser, from the stalker main character to the unnamed neighbor who beats his wife.

I cant come up with a horror movie where the man is the hero, and the woman needs saving. Its always the opposite, or woman saves herself.
Like… since the 70s? Actually I dont think Ive ever seen that movie.

So… yeh the whole genre basically.
