So flashback to last Sunday. My girlfriend has a 3 year old son, and I know there are a lot of opinions on this, but I don't really care. Aside from the point here. Anyway, he had acted up a couple weeks ago by smacking another kid in church daycare. I scared him and let him know next time this happened there would be consequences and he had to apologize (personally I would have preferred to go straight to the consequences, I don't think talking to a 3 year old does anything).

So this weekend it happened again. We were sitting there and the babysitter came upstairs to get my girlfriend. I assumed it had something to do with him, so I went downstairs shortly after. It did, and when I found out what happened she told me she talked to him and he apologized. Nope, not gonna fly. You get one warning, and if you break the rules after that, you get spanked. So I took him into the bathroom, and did the needful.

He cries, goes in and apologizes. I can tell my girl isn't pleased with the situation, but whatever. I explain why it has to be done and we move on. So in between the morning study and the sermon, that's when everyone sings. Sometimes she likes to take him downstairs and just sit with him during this to avoid any potential problems. I go downstairs, and have him come back up (not in an unkind way, I just say hey buddy let's go and he follows).

She's stressed about this, I can tell. He's pushing his limits but not doing anything to actually warrant action. Everyone finishes singing, and the kids are allowed to go back to the sitters' room. No issues. So I say to her, see, everything was fine. Looks at me, looks away. I know she's pissed.

Now we can get to the argument. We get out, and I have my parents take the kid for a little, telling them I want to take her to lunch. We get in the car, and I asked her what's wrong. She tells me she was already upset and me explaining myself felt like I was taking a dig at her. Excuse me? So apparently me explaining why I had to do something I know needed to be done to try to alleviate her stress is an issue. Then later, me saying that everything was fine seemed to her like I was saying I told you so. My meaning was really more like you shouldn't worry about this stuff, look it was fine.

Anyway, throughout this whole 30 minute talk I remained calm and spoke in a level tone. She took issue with this too and told me she felt like I was talking to her like a child (no shit, I'm not going to entertain you getting an attitude with me shit that I had to do so you wouldn't), and that I should have been being nice to her. This does not fly for me. I tell her that if she's done something that I'm not pleased with I'm not going to yell and scream at her, but me kissing her ass to make her feel better about it isn't going to fly. Then I let the silence hang.

After a few minutes she calms down and apologizes and I take her out to lunch. Gotta reward proper behavior. Thanks for reading this novel of text fellows.
