Longtime reader first time poster. I'm mostly writing because I've noticed a bit of a trend in a few posts here about different contraceptive methods. I'm not here to disparage advice that people have give, just to add a little something for you guys to think about.

Literally every post that somehow deals with contraceptives has someone saying "use condoms". I think it's easy to feel safe with a condom on, after all: you know it's there and you "know" if it works or not. However, condoms aren't especially good as contraceptives go because of a high failure rate (especially with long term use).

This table here takes a comparison of typical use of common contraceptives and their failure rate. The figure for condoms? 18%. (perfect use is much better, but that assumes perfect use every. Single. Time. Which is actually fairly demanding)

That means if you sleep with 1 woman 2-3 times a week for a year just using condoms, there's a slightly less than 20% chance of pregnancy. That's not good. One of the reason why a male pill would be a breakthrough.

TL;DNR Condoms are not foolproof. If you absolutely have to sleep with someone, try to make it someone you trust enough to use some other, more reliable method.
