This relates to the idea that "masculine ideals" that are forced on men are harmful--and they are oppressive. Not that men oppress others. For example, expecting a man to pay for dinner on a date, or expecting a man to take a punch from a woman and just deal with it. These are examples of oppressive masculine ideals. The reason they have a section for "women in D51" is because a lot of women don't join because they think they won't be welcome (similar to men who want to be involved in feminist movements). I wasn't aware of it until last year (and I've been involved in the APA for years) and I was educated about it by two professors (a man and a woman) who are involved (in fact, he helped start the division). So when we talk about men vs. male gender roles, please don't think that I'm saying men oppress people. The fact is, gender roles oppress people (and I know MR agrees, because a lot of the front page usually relates to inequality in gender roles).
