He wants you to tackle your student loans and save, so do those, but grab a monthly bill you can reasonably afford to pay and just pay it and surprise him. Tuck away a nice nest egg and surprise him in a year. This separate from your own savings.

Cooking and cleaning and generally being awesome will benefit him as well. Since he makes so much more than you, I think he will refuse to take money for rent from you but you can try. Don't press the issue though, don't make it a fight. It doesn't have to be 50/50. In a relationship, nothing usually is.

I can't speak for your SO but to me it would look like you were wasting 10.000+$ per year of our future money, and I would want you to stop doing this without any additional expenses on my side. Seems like a no brainer for me.

If you really are uneasy accepting his offer then don't just ignore his offer by offering money for rent and utilities but rather tell him that you appreciate his offer but it makes you uneasy. To me the former is ignoring my decisions (which I hate) while the latter is a start for a discussion.

It benefits you both in the long run to get debt paid off. If you are seriously committed (which you should be if you are going to live together), then go for it!

I think it would be nice if you could use some of the extra money you are saving on top of rent and surprise him with treats- bring him the new game he's eyeing, or the fancy food/drink he wants to try but is too expensive to justify buying.

I'm in the same place; bf makes a lot of money so he's paying for some of my school and we just got a new place.

I make sure everything is clean and he's well fed after a long day at work. I do all the housework so he can unwind...I always give him a kiss and a smile when he comes home. I never bother him with my crap until he asks me about my day and even then i keep it light.

This lacks a lot of context so I will make a few assumptions. 1: Your relationship has progressed to the moving in stage properly. (I.e. neither of you are desperate and just trying to block something down)

2: He makes enough money that he doesn't "need" you to pay rent.

Analysis: Men do not need a roommate to pay bills for them. Our place in the RMP is to provide resources and security so we are not looking for a provider. I would recommend that you stop worrying about being a good boyfriend and focus on being a good girlfriend. Cook, clean, be cheerful, sexually available and enthusiastic about it, and generally be a source of support for him. If you picked a decent captain then this arrangement will work really well for both of you.

IMO the right thing to do - just do what he says. Put it towards your loans/savings. I don't think it would be out of line to ask him if he'd like you to at least cover some utilities, since they'll go up with you there. Definitely cook and clean, bring positive things to his environment. But yeah, don't push it, especially if he's not making it an issue.

My concern would be for the potential of future resentment. Men spending money on me has always made me uneasy.

Nothing in life is free so when it appears to be free it usually costs more "in some way" than it would if you had paid for it yourself.

I never want the relationship to feel like he is buying me or owns me because of money.

I have to absolutely trust his motivations and also trust that he is very clear of what his motivations are, before I would be comfortable.

Like you, I would also be uncomfortable with the idea of taking advantage of someone but this is easily remedied by all the things you can do to make life easier for him, as he is for you.

To many men spend money on a woman because that is what they think is necessary to have her in their life.

Money is very seductive and it tempts are values.

In my opinion be sure you will not be placed in a position that compromises your values and who you want to be and become as a person and a woman.

Respect for him should never come at the cost of lost respect for yourself.

What he is offering is not necessarily wrong but it could be depending on "the why" below the offer.

I'm always cautious with people when they are being generous and particularly when it is a man I'm in a relationship with.

I never want to feel like I'm trading sex for money because I know if I ever felt this way I would lose interest in sex to "protect my self image". That point where you become dependent on someone because you are trapped in the relationship financially or in some other way.

In this situation I would start questioning my motives for everything I'm doing and once it feels like a "have to" I stop wanting to.
