As you'll be able to tell from my post history, I have not been active in the MRP subreddits - but I have been in lurking mode and working my plan. Have made halting progress in the interim, but over the past year have worked my MAP pretty well.

I have finally come to the decision that I am going to separate from my wife and end the marriage of 20+ years when the state-defined separation time is up.

Although there are some relevant factors I can't discuss because they are too identifying, the basic issue is that my wife knows something is up. I have been waiting to break the news until one of the factors that complicates things is resolved - but at this point she has precipitated more than one confrontation about the changes and it seems cruel to draw this out.

One issue is that in the last confrontation she used some language like "my mind has being going to some dark places" and after I asked if she is thinking of hurting herself, she replied no but then added "but sometimes I wish God would just call me home".

On one hand, this is consistent with her using emotional manipulation tactics to try and control me (which presented significant hurdles in me developing any kind of frame - but I have made progress). On the other hand, I feel like I have to take those statements somewhat seriously. They are not my issues, but I also don't want to ignore legitimate mental health cues from the mother of my children.

So - I would like her to get some counseling, but because of a couple of the factors she won't on her own. So, right now I can think of two ways to proceed - just rip the band-aid off and tell her and let her deal with her own emotions. The other is that our religious organization provides counselors for individuals, couples and families and I am considering making a couples appointment and breaking the news in the session. She may be pissed and feel ambushed because I am not going to save the marriage - but at least I can bring up my concerns for her safety with a licensed professional.

Am interested in thoughts about my thinking, questions about the situation, or any new ideas I haven't thought about.

FYI - I have already had initial consults with family law attorneys (along with the posts from MRP and askMRP), and have an outline of a plan for the logistics of the separation - so I know what I am dealing with on the legal front .
