This is my first post on askMRP, also my first post on Reddit. I’ve lurked here for maybe two years, so I am familiar with the MRP vocabulary. If my post belongs somewhere else or is not useful, move or delete it, please. So, why lift? I need to briefly give you my story, so you have context for my observations.
At 13 I started my trek into endurance sports. 4 years varsity in soccer and track. I got on a good bike and was hooked. I moved into 50-100 mile races and a few triathlons. I could ride all day, I could leg press 400# and at 5’8” 145 I could reach my arm under a door, ha.
I tried lifting for a month or two. I made zero gains. In retrospect, adding lifting to 16+ hours of intense cardio/week and eating just at maintenance of course is not going to work. At the time I had no understanding of this. On two separate occasions, I observed gay sex activities in the locker room/weight room. Being 100% heterosexual, I was repulsed. So, in my young subconscious mind, I decided lifting was stupid and gay. I didn’t pick up another weight for 30 years. At 19 while in college I married the first girl that had properly fucked me. I then turned into the most blue pill bitch that any of you could imagine, behaving the way I believed I was supposed to do as a husband. I won’t detail it, but just compile every stupid counterproductive blue pill behavior posted on the is forum and you have me back then. It ended after she blew most of my friends and acquaintances and divorced me. Recalling those days makes me cringe, still to this day. I was heavily inflicted with oneitis, but somehow did complete no-contact and moved on with my life. I learned that making your life’s mission to make a woman happy is suicide. I slowly learned to be me, to develop who I was independent of anyone else. I threw myself into my work, making subsistence at 23, gaining 7 promotions before I was 30, to rolling in cash. I dated girls. I had some casual sex. I dated multiple girls. I talked two fat girls into giving me a blowjob. All a little late, but better late than never. Then, at 31 I was dating a girl. You would call her a plate. 23 and her SMV was a sold 2 points above me. I was having a blast and loving life. Then I got her pregnant. I decided I was going to raise my children. I also innately understood she was not mine, that it was just my turn and I was fine with that. I knew that if it didn’t work out, I would be fine, I would raise my children and get on with things. I wish I could say it was a conscious decision, but it really was just a natural outcome of the things I had experienced in my life. So, I married the girl and proceeded to have a second child. In retrospect, and using mrp terms, I had developed outcome independence, a healthy DNGAF attitude, and a pretty solid frame. The result: 20 years of marriage with sex on demand, two amazing gifted children, tons of fun and a great family. I was accidentally red pill before anyone discussed the idea. So, that is my back story. I stumbled across mrp one day after googling MGTOW and shaking my head at the boys that took their toys home and refused to play. I looked up what an INCEL was and was saddened that there are men so mentally and/or physically unattractive that no woman will ever want them. I found Red Pill. Lots of guys with a life mission to stick their penis in as many different vaginas as possible before they die. Cool info there, but not my mission.
Then I found MRP. Right away I thought “These dudes get how the world works.” Half of the principals of MRP I thought were my own ideas, haha. I also learned a ton from how you all define shit tests, how to react to them and how to tell them from comfort tests. I had the general ideas in my head, but you defining them and discussing them really solidified them in my head and in fact improved my relationships with females even more.
So, I kept reading here and thinking, yep they got it. Yep, they know. Yes that is exactly correct. But, eh. I got no reason to lift. Life is good. No need to change. Just bullshit excuses. I finally realized if you all were right on 99% of shit, maybe I should listen about the lifting part. So, I hired a personal trainer to teach me. First 3 days a week. Then 5 days a week. Now about 1.5 hours a day for 6 days a week and I’m finishing up my 8th month of training. Where did I start: 5’8 185, 51 years old. Bench bar, OHP 10# dumbbells, squat bar, curls 15#, body weight dips 0, pull ups 0 Now: Weight 163#
Bench sets 155, max 175 Curls 8x3 70 Forced negatives with 60. I love these haha. Squat 3 plate 3 reps, Sets 8x3 @275 Dips 15x 5 Pull up 5x3 Its posted over and over. Lift and read. Lift and sidebar. Lift and STFU. Lift and own your shit. Lift and dread. BUT WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME THIS IS LIFE CHANGING SHIT? What I got: Confidence. Mood enhancement and control. Massive dread. Health. Vitality. Strength to do WETF I want to do. My wife now routinely caresses my arms and chest. She often climbs on top and initiates sex when she never did before. I recently had a female acquaintance compliment my silky shirt by putting her hand on my chest and resting it there with a surprised look. PRICELESS. TLDR: Guy with good life thinks lifting is stupid. Puts dedication into lifting and changes his life.
