Thank food network for making people think that being a chef was a glamorous high paying career. My youngest son thought about being a chef for about 6 months when he was young. I told him the pros and cons and offered to get him a job as a dishwasher while he was still in HS (friend owned a restaurant). He went through with meeting my friend and taking tour of the kitchen in between lunch and dinner. He spoke with my friend about it asked some good questions and got the straight scoop on it. Decided after that to pursue finance and accounting degree.

I worked my way through college cooking at a chain that's no longer in business. It's a lot harder work than people realize for not a whole lot of $$$.

I had a girlfriend for a while in high school. We went our separate ways a couple years before I graduated. She dropped out, I went off to university.

About 10 years ago I got curious and looked her up. Found her on... uh... myspace or bebo or something. She'd moved to my countries biggest city and went on to become a hooker.

Very few of us end up in the profession we trained for in school. We accidentally fall into careers or slide into another because of our connections. Strange how life works. I am retired now and look back a lot at the decisions I made. All of my decisions had to happen a certain way for me to retire at 54.

Even if she was a chef she would be on her back. Culinary industry is not easy if your a pro. Not a lot of “ladies “ who can cook, can cook in a commercial kitchen. I’ve seen many a tight hole destroy a kitchen or run it into the ground.
