I am not sure if this is where I should post this. Right now I am a caretaker for my Mom and I live with my boyfriend. I am 29 and he is 35. He pays all the household bills and I cover my personal bills (car loan, insurance, gas, ect) by my savings. I do my best to have dinner on the table, be pleasing and understanding, be kind, and look good.
I have noticed that since he took over paying the household bills and I have quit my job that I am beginning to resent him and it comes out as little passive "jabs" in conversations. He is a little overweight and I think he has even lost weight recently. He is husky. I have lost 30 pounds and since then I want to do a lot of physical things. I want to go walking, hiking, swimming, ect. He spends so much time playing video games. We do things together like watch tv when he gets home from work. play board games, and we go to dungeon and dragons together. I watch "My 600 pound life" and during the show I said that I wouldn't want to date someone that big because we couldn't be intimate and I would inevitably end up their caretaker. I also said that I wish I wouldn't have painted all fit people as being narcissistic and shallow as a teenager because only now that I am losing weight do I realize they are people doing what they love and I wish I would have stopped seeing them as out of my class. I also said that bigger people where just as bad but they hid it because they were numbing themselves with food but if you took the food away they were just as bad as the rest of humanity. The conclusion was the people are people. It was also a passive aggressive way to tell him to lose weight. I really want to do some active activities with him but he is always too tired (understandably) and he plainly doesn't like physical activities.
He plays video games. I used to live and breathe video games. That was until I realized that I wasn't actually advancing my life at all. The same thing with anime. I used to live anime but one day I asked myself why am I watching all these people do these amazing things that I want to do instead of doing them myself? I started getting out and working to better myself. I do krav maga. I meet interesting people. I design cakes. I brought up something about my cousin who had a boyfriend who wan't ambitious and she left him because video games destroy lives. Yes, that was true but the real meaning was stop playing video games and be a success. We have been together four years and when he met me I was the gamer girl, that was until I was always second place to video games and then I hated video games. I am slowly beginning to play again but honestly he's not even fun to play with because when he starts losing he starts screaming at the television.
He also has a low libido and I figured that that would be what eventually tore us apart because if you don't have sex or feel sexual you have to have a high intellectual or emotional compatibility. We don't have serious debates and he just tends to agree with what I say. My sex drive has started to lower and when he touches me something feels wrong in the pit of my stomach. I used to want sex three times a week and I don't think we ever hit that mark. He would happily go a month without sex. I saw the lowering of my libido as a good thing but the touch aversion I was not expecting. I don't really feel like he wants me and he doesn't pursue me. I feel like we are roommates. I used to read articles out loud to him about people who broke up because of lack of sex. This was to tell him I need more sex. I was resentful that we seemed to have so little sex. This is very bad because the last time I was touch averse it meant that my needs weren't being met and my mind said, "you are completely on your own." and my body agreed. It took a lot to get over that where I did want to cuddle and love skin to skin contact.
I am fit now. I have friends that do physical activities and a pretty outgoing. I now know a lot about makeup and I do get hit on pretty frequently. I am embarrassed to take him anywhere because he will just be on his phone playing video games. He is very introverted so I try to prep him as much as possible. He sticks out like a sore thumb and it appears ruse to others. I do not invite him anymore and most of the time there is a group function in town when given the choice he will say he does not wish to go but wish me a good time. I am realizing that we have no hobbies in common, except board games. I feel like I am with a stereotypical basement dweller without the basement. Last night completely broke my heart because I was super excited to show him a new hold I learned in class and he responded with "Yeah, I really don't care." Then he back pedaled and said that it was because it was a violent activity but he will help me train for my exam for my next belt color. It really took the wind out of my sails. I am worried about the exam because I am behind the class. I work really hard but I don't have an instinctual response and tend to overthink.I don't want him to help me train because of how he views my activity. He is always tired after work and will spend hours watching anime or gaming, and then he jumps in bed and we cuddle but in an hour I am up to start my day and he is sleeping.
It wasn't like this in the beginning. I appreciated how much he listened. How he was dedicated to non violence. You could not find a more ethical person. I want to get us counseling because I think we could have a great life together. We share many of the same values. He is very easy going and does not get flustered easily. He is very protective. I am so grateful that he is willing to shoulder the household bills especially since my Mom has cancer. He is very stable.
I know that no one gets boosted up by someone always implying that they are doing wrong. I have to stop making passive aggressive comments because he is not stupid and he knows what I am getting at. I need to be boosting him up and I know I am doing the opposite. I do not know how to stop this. I have looked into relationship counseling and it is very expensive. We do not have that type of money but he has agreed that if I can find a cheap one he would be willing to go. I really feel that if this does not get resolved I will be walking away in the next year. I don't know if this is temporary and a regular problem in a relationship, or if this is how it will be forever. I sometimes think that we have just grown into two completely different people.
