I tend to discover subreddits, then spend some intense time on them, then move on. I am not that into the topics here, but I like that it's a subreddit where people can actually debate/discuss with relative freedom. There's an annoying trend that subreddits hate any questioning or discussion.

I for one, am here to post declarations of my gender-related ethos and philosophy, laying out the groundwork for a full structural anaylsis and critique of modern marriage, and have (I think) succeeded at least to the extent of a Sam Harris or John Dewey, if not to the level of a Kant or Foucalt. Yet, instead of engendering serious discussion, I am roundly laughed at wherever I go. When I insist I am serious, people laugh harder. It's disconcerting.. even mildly distressing, yet, I will not be turned back in my quest. The world must know the true nature of wives, and of marital sex (more precisely, lack thereof).

This question of why you are here has been asked a billion times btw. For me and many others, we simply enjoy debating people, find human relationships an interesting topic of discussion, and just got used to the community here.

Why not? I used to post on internet forums all the time,but they are dying and when I found reddit 2 years ago on a search for something, hey why not. I hate reddit, its got a horrible format for real discussion but it is what it is.

I work in social services and interact with extremely diverse populations. It's useful for me to hear people talk about differing experiences and opinions, so that I can fine-tune the most effective ways to approach and cooperate with people even if we don't agree on all topics.

I also enjoy debate and being able to endlessly ask questions. This sub has some excellent moderation, so even when I don't care very strongly about the topics, I at least know that there's a bare minimum of effort and good faith in these discussions. That's really rare these days.

i like to discuss for the sake of discussion, it's fun

i'm not afraid to play the devil's advocate, as long as it keeps the conversation going

most of the people in the RL / in my environment find that tiring and boring

Because I truly want to understand how some of the folks here think. I'm probably quite a bit older than most of the posters here so I'm way out of the peer group. I've been through some of the self-inflicted problems a lot of young men are going through and came out the other side a far more decent person. But I went through a lot of year of angst. Honestly, if I can be here and say that one thing to one person and make them get on the course to a happier and fulfilling life then I did something positive.
