Listening to the response attentively

How is this relevant? It demonstrates in a very indirect way that you do not waste time asking frivolous questions to which you do not necessarily want to hear the answer. Your time is valuable.

Being involved, even when you're not the focus

Look at his actions throughout the rest of the clip. He's clapping just as loudly as everyone else, he's wearing the biggest smile on his face, he's involved. Being "alpha" is not to be confused with "being the center of attention all the time".

Open posture

Nothing about him is guarded or closed off - he allows Emily Blunt to cop an arm squeeze (remember how women convey interest in men they find attractive in open social settings?) more than once and plays it off like it's no big deal.

Appropriate escalation of humour

Emily mocks his voice slightly, and he returns it absolutely perfectly without her losing any social status. Agree and amplify is something that we talk about a lot here, but correct calibration of how much you amplify is important; it demonstrates high social value.

I've learned so much from Tom Cruise. Not just body language, but attitude.

He has his own plane that he flies, he rides his motorcycles, he travels around the world (he was pretty much the first Hollywood actor to start touring with his movies), goes rock climbing etc.

He works all the time. He goes from film shoot to film shoot. And when he's shooting, he works long days. Sometimes the first crew goes home, but Cruise stays on set and works with the second crew. He does his own stunts (driving/flying/climbing/fighting), most memorably the Burj Khalifa in MI: Ghost Protocol.

Interesting to watch how he handled that. I saw video where russel brand got schooled by some guy and they both talked over each other till brand gave up. Tom is on a different level, addressed the guy directly and told him I'm going to speak now in the most calm and polite way. Not a real test though any fucking interviewer would shut the fuck up when Tom cruise is speaking on your show. H

I think scientology is very much about perfecting communication skills and mastering emotions, at least at the lower levels before you are introduced to the sci-fi/"religious" aspects of the doctrine.

I recall a documentary about ex-scientologists who still believe strongly in the power of "auditing" to help people as general therapists/communications coaches. Apparently their methods are highly successful.

I think the religion aspect of scientology is nonsense, but you have to give them credit for the communication skills they teach. Most scientologists I've seen/heard of are equally good at clear, non-emotional communication (including both men and women).

It sure helps if you are good looking!! Tom at his best is probably 10/10 for most women. Are there any examples of average/above-average guys who can pull this off.
