I've spent the past few months getting familiar with TRP. It's time for me to give a FR of some experimentation I've done in the workplace with my female boss.

To set the scene, this is a campus job that I started right around the time I discovered TRP. I had been working several months prior to get rid of my "Nice Guy" habits so my co-workers (who are all students) no nothing about my "Nice Guy" days of the past. My "boss" (lets call her Jane) is a 23 year old senior. I am also a senior but younger. Most of the other workers have been in their positions for a year already, so I am an older newcomer in their space.

I deliberately play up the fact that Jane is our superior. I always refer to her as "boss" or "boss-lady." I toe the line between serious and sarcastic with this tactic. Jane is never completely sure if i'm being respectful or joking. To be honest it's a little bit of both. I will defer to her and build up her position when it is in my interest, but I'm also the first to put my foot down or make a sarcastic comment to take her down a notch. She gets my validation when she is performing well, but when she shirks from firm leadership (as women oft do) she is relegated to "just another peer/student" She eats this up (but more on that later).

For example, here are a few instances of my changed behavior. I have no hesitation telling her no. When Jane asks something of me that I cannot accommodate I will explain to her "What you are asking is outside of this jobs requirements and outside of my payscale." I am a hard worker, but my job pays very little and so I have a very clear line in the sand on how much extra work I will perform. She always agrees with me and we have even talked about extra pay for some work (this has not come to fruition yet).

Another example is when we started having issues with another worker shirking his responsibilities. "Joe" was not turning in his work on time and Jane was basically turning a blind eye to it while the rest of our jobs were made harder. I pulled Jane aside and told her that Joe's behavior was unacceptable and (as our boss) it was her responsibility to fix the problem. She agreed and the problem was shortly fixed. Both of the things would never have happened in my BP days. I would have been horrified to challenge the authority.

The biggest validation of my changed behavior came late in the semester at a company hangout. Jane was in the "hot seat" and everyone got to ask her a question. "Gary" asked Jane who her favorite employee was. "Gary" is a total Nice Guy. The dude SLAVES away at his job and is constantly begging for validation from Jane. It was quite obvious that Gary wanted to be picked as the favorite. Surprise, surprise when Jane said that I was her favorite.

So, despite being new to the position where everyone else is a veteran, making borderline sarcastic/disrespectful comments, and refusing to do work outside of my job description, Jane sees me as the favorite. I can only attribute this to my RP education. I only encourage Jane when she is leading correctly, and sometimes even tell her straight up what she needs to be doing. Just like in a relationship I believe that she subconsciously 'wants' a male figure to lead. This is the reason she like me so much, because I am the only person who has the balls to tell her how to lead correctly.
