The classic White Knight fantasy for men is essentially that of the role of a protector or guardian of those who cannot protect themselves. Traditionally expressed as the white knight who comes to the rescue of a princess captured/threatened by a dragon.

There are both admirable, and disturbing aspects to this fantasy.

On the one hand there is the idea of protecting the weak, fighting against an overwhelming threat to protect those who cannot defend themselves. I would think this is an admirable aspect of the White Knight fantasy.

But there is also the more disturbing aspect, the white knight expecting recompense (romantic/sexual), and the robbing of the agency of women. The first part points to an underlying selfish drive in the act of protecting others, which robs the act of its pure intentions, and so is considered distasteful. The second makes the assumption that the threatened princess cannot protect/save herself - which contradicts the modern beliefs around the self-sufficiency of women.

While this fantasy has both positive and negative connotations, I think the general impetus behind it still drives many men in how they act. While there are no (more?) dragons out there, I think that many men still want to take on that heroic burden of saving/protecting someone of the opposite sex, and often this is done with the hidden motive of expecting some form of thanks for this effort. That isn't to say though that all men act this way, with a hidden motive, there likely are still true white knights out there who really do help, without expecting something in return.

The whole point of this post though is to find out what fantasy (fantasies?) women have that mirror the White knight fantasy. Is it the same? Do you want to come gallantly to the rescue of your dream man, and protect him from a dragon? Or is it something else? Is there even a mirror female fantasy of the White Knight?

Bonus points if you describe the fantasy in Fantasy terms, like knights and dragons.
