It's kind of wasted so far. With all the big data analysis going on I would expect them to be much better. The problem is most current online dating pretty much comes down to "do I like your pic or not. Tinder is shit unless you are a woman, an attractive male or have shit standards. Ok cupid is slightly better, but a lot more work on the front end.

Online dating is great for above-average people with social anxiety issues.

I went on several dates through Okcupid. I didn't click with anyone. It was awkward. I felt very indifferent toward everyone. Forcing yourself to find common ground with random men just wasn't fun. It's like going for an interview for a job that you don't really know whether you want or not.

Online just gives you access to people that are way outside your normal social circles.

Negative, well if you go in taking it too seriously odds are your experience will suffer (specifically the apps, Tinder/Bumble etc, the sites probably attract a different crowd)

With reference to the most recent events I have lived in 4 different cities in the last 5 years and when coming to a new city it's a way to get into the dating scene without knowing anyone: no friends, no wingmen, no nobody.

If you have a particular "type", you can find it online, locally if you live in a sizable city, or you might find it in the surrounding country side or nearby large, urban centre.

The downside is the time investment and limited response rates, particularly if you are choosy about who you are messaging. You may have to send out dozens of openers to get a date, and go on several dates with different women to find one that you click with.

Still - and I don't know which internet some of these other guys are using but - when I set my mind to it I could usually find someone in the 6 to 7 range with the occasional 8, generally younger than me and sometimes scandalously so, and that was in fucking Toronto.

Now I live in China. Going online lets me do something I can't do with day or night game: immediately filter for English language ability. Other than that, looks and age and away we go.

Positive: tons of women you can go out with purely to pump dump while you up your game skills.

Negative: the women on online dating are so horrible and low quality with such incredibly massive overinflated egos that you won't want to do anything but use them to up your game for picking up girls in RL.

Online dating was a joke. A huge joke. I used it for a year and would compare the quality, age, attractiveness, and personality of the women I'd get in person to the online dating ones. Online dating is filled with horrible low value women who delude themselves into thinking they are 3-4 points higher in the SMP then they are. Utter waste of time.

I've said it before I'll say it again. Men should only use online dating to spam for dates with any girl, even fat ugly ones, just to go out with them and learn game. You don't have to fuck them but you may as well. And these women are so horrible and there are so many of them you can just treat them like utter garbage, thereby internalizing the game factoid that women love being treated like garbage.

Edit - oh I also wanted to add that on online dating for some reason the women who went and got all old and are in their thirties think, for some insane reason, that guys who are their same age will seriously date them. It's absurd.

They were good for a while when tinder hit & the hype was around.

Then I think the new marketplace reached equilibrium, and it's caused girls to be super entitled. Generally not worth your time unless you're a very very attractive male.

The majority of PPD seems to have bad experiences with it as this thread already confirms.

It's been pretty good for me though. Met most of my girlfriends online. Most of them messaged me first even when they had no idea what I looked like. This was mostly through Tumblr (had an old blog with a few thousand followers, many called themselves my "fangirls") and FetLife rather than traditional dating sites, but the one time I tried Okc seriously and messaged a few girls on there I got ~50% response rate.

Don't see what all the negativity is about, shit is easy. I have a feeling a lot of the guys complaining have generic profiles, bad photos, and are just spamming girls with pick up lines rather than putting in effort to convey a genuinely interesting persona and engage in actual interesting conversations, instead they're saying "hi" and giving up when their inbox isn't flooded with nudez.

I think it sucks. I have no problem picking up girls IRL. My looks are slightly above average, but I really get women with my personality. Since I am not very photogenic, I look much worse in my pictures. You can't really get your personality across online, so I just lose out.

For these reasons, Tinder was a depressing experience. I did have luck with OK Cupid when I made a joke account (or so I thought at first) basically saying I just want to bang, and lo and behold, I got a couple takers :)

It was fun as a novelty, but it was so much work and I didn't have anything in common with the people I met.

My judgement is that the majority of the people online are lazier. They would rather sit and click than go take a class or do some group activity where they would meet people in person. Also, since personality doesn't show through online, it is a safe harbor for people with shitty personalities to lurk. This makes it hard to weed through them to get to people that you will actually get along with.

All in all, I think it is too much wasted time and not enough reward.

Meeting people in online platforms catering to your interests is useful. Websites designed just for dating or hooking up are rougher in my experience. I met my current girlfriend through a blogging site because of a shared interest in writing.

I was on dating sites for awhile, but it was mostly men sending me sexual come-ones without even a hello. Pointless. Even on websites designed for sex, an introduction wouldn't go amiss.

If you could tell someone who is totally unfamiliar with this concept something positive about online dating, what would it be? What about something negative? Was/is the overall experience worth it to you, or did you get fed up and take down your profile?

i haven't been on a dating site since late teens/early twenties, and even then it was just out of curiosity. it seems like a gamble, with bad odds, from the things i see online. if someone wanted to try it, i would tell them to only use it as one method, not placing all focus on it (because they could just end up with a bunch of crap interactions from it).

a friend of mine is marrying someone she met on okcupid and dated for years, but i don't think that's a likely experience or the norm.

Online dating is great. Girls are a numbers game above all. Online you can quickly sort through a bunch. I've only done it in Ukraine, Spain, Cambodia though.

It's great. Easy way to meet girls, in my opinion it is easier than bars. I am not good looking, I'm like a 5/10 at best , but I do have cool pics, there is a lot of character in them and that helps.

Like half the time girls are down to bang right away.

Something negative is that you have to contact a lot of women and sometimes you meet a few crazies

I tried OKCupid once, just for the experience. I sent a message to the most intelligent profile, got a reply, we hit it off, but it turns out she thinks everyone has to have a life as boring as her own, if they're ever to be believed. Ick. Pass.

It's all bullshit and just a waste of time. Prostitutes and sluts that are all either fat or single mothers. Quality girls don't use online dating, they're already taken. If you find yourself considering online dating, it is already too late for you. Perhaps you should learn to live alone. I heard RX 480 is a great graphics card for cheap entry into gaming
