I casually play a mobile game (I know) and this guy in my group has been getting on my case about me not wanting to make in-game purchases and not being into gaming. He’s stagnant in his career, usually stoned, and “doesn’t like people”- your typical gamer.

That’s why I can never get into serious gaming: as well as it being a distraction, I feel like it gives the illusion of achievement. Gaming provides a safe environment for addicted scrotes that have trouble taking risks and responsibilities in the real world.

What an idiot. In-game purchases and loot boxes are a scourge in gaming and are considered gambling and a total waste of money. You may as well be throwing your money down the toilet.

Pay-to-win is why I quit a LOT games. Reminds me of Skyrim - ever see the interview with Todd Howard where he not so subtly implies Bethesda was PISSED they missed out on monetizing the crap out of Skyrim so that's what they did with Fallout 76?

My hard and fast rule is that I don't pay for anything inside a game. If I have to put down money beyond that which I paid for it originally, I stop playing. Fortunately the kinds of games I like don't use loot boxes. Yay for puzzle platform games!

I have a super addictive personality so the only "game" I let myself play is Duolingo. And I'm not paying for the plus version, lol
