What do you guys think about the book Men are from Mars, Women are from venus?

Even assuming, for the sake of argument, that women in general show feelings by communication and men in general show feelings by action, I have interacted with my fiance. I have access to much better information about whether he shows his feelings by action than the information provided by him having a cock.

It's a good start, but only scratches the surface. It was one of the first books from the 1990s to challenge the prevailing hegemonic feminist view that men and women are exactly the same and approach relationships and sex exactly the same way. It was one of the first books from that era to suggest that, hey, maybe men and women ARE different, they look at relationships and sex differently, and maybe that's why men and women are having all these problems. Maybe if we look at the radical notion that men are people too, and that men want and need things from their relationships too, we might actually get somewhere.

I'm not a self help fan by any means, but two married friends gave me some good advice right after I got married: read this book.

I think it does a better job of explaining what John Gray touches on, and really helps people in marriages.

The other thing that helped was looking up the "5 Love Languages." I never read the book, but just figuring out how my husband prefers to receive affection/gifts really helped me communicate better with him.

Men and women are different! Wow! That is revolutionary!

Dr. John Gray is very gynocentric. He accepts and excuses some poor female behaviours as "she is just being a women." Where the truth is that it is just childish behaviour. He also "spins" female communication methods as important, where they are not.

Then he more or less asks men to communicate differently (like women)... just to please women... not because it would actually have better outcomes for men.

The only results that following his advice will deliver, is a lot of time wasted "being diplomatic".

Women understand men perfectly well, in fact, women are better linguistically. Men don't understand women because they listen to all the lies that women spew rather than examining what she does. And he encourages more listening to them and just believing women. AKA accept the lies even though he never directly says it, it is implied.

How do you know a woman lied? She said something that she wants you to believe.

I read it as a teenager and concluded that I must be a man. The copy belonged to a friend's mother. My friends read it and concluded the same thing.

I think John Gray must be from another planet.
