I have zero empathy for that guy; frankly I'm a bit disgusted by the whole thing but if I had to feel anything towards him it'd be embarrassment.

Also, what he's saying is nonsense. Open marriages/polyamory have fuck all to do with feminism.

Open marriages are the final goal of modern feminism.

Unbridled hypergamy minus the consequences.

Um...okay....

Citation needed.

Common sense doesn't need citations. Feminists are unlikely to advertise their true intentions in a position paper. But anyone with an IQ over room temperature can see where this train wreck is headed.

[–]itsalreadybeenthrown2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No part of that statement makes sense.

Where do sex-negative feminists fit into this view?

[–]wazzup987Blue pill, you can beat me black & blue for it later[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I Agree with both parts

[–]OfSpock8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've never been told that liking sex only with you boyfriend or husband makes you boring or lame.

Otherwise, I agree with the commentor who said this is an article about polyamory labelled as feminism.

You have it backwards this is an article labeled as polyamoury about feminism

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sigh. Didn't we just have a 300 some-odd comment thread about this article?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess it just fits the narratives of TRP so people are really keen on it.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

well when you find one single unusual/newsworthy example, better milk it for what it's worth eh? seriously, a second thread for this was unnecessary.

Article is dumb, guy is dumb. Being a generous and compassionate lover has never been about sacrificing your own principles and happiness. If you want to have an open relationship, do it because you're into open relationships, not because you're trying to appease your partner.

[–]99_Problem1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I truly hope this guy revisits this article in 5 or 10 years to let us know how their marriage is going.

[–]Qucumatz1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

obvious clickbait is obvious

[–]Pleb-Tier_Basiccritical thinking 1010 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dude and his wife have something that works for them, bravo. I disagree with his conclusion that you have to be polygamous to be a feminist.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

"She’d had sex before me, but only with a handful of people a handful of times. She never had a boyfriend, never had a lover"

Wife is a promiscuous woman, who got married and wants to continue being promiscuous. This is simply a case of a slut using feminist arguments to get what she wants, it's nothing to do with actual feminism.

[–]belletaco7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Did you read that part? A handful of people a handful of times, the reason she wanted to have sex was because SHE DIDNT FEEL SHE HAD ENOUGH SEX BEFORE HIM. So maybe your "marrying virgins only" idea isn't perfect. People always wonder what else is there..

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

No, a handful of people a handful of times without a boyfriend or a lover implies she is downplaying sleeping around with lots of men. I have seen sorority girls talk like this to make themselves sound innocent and inexperience but it's a lie. A woman who can't be monogamous is a slut. There is no rationalization for it. She specifically stats she requires sex with lots of men to be happy.

[–]Amethhyst1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What about a guy who can't be monogamous? Does he get similarly looked down upon?

[–]belletaco1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

A woman who can't be monogamous is a slut? That's ridiculous. Some people aren't wired to be with only one person and that's okay. It's a problem when they cheat, but if you're open like this woman was and your husband is okay with it.. I don't see the issue.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The problem in this article is that the wife is manipulating the husband to thinking a desire for a monogamous relationship is inherently wrong and oppressive to women. She's trying to make him believe, and he is going along with it, that telling women they can't date other men is evil.

[–]belletaco1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No she is not. This has nothing to do with feminism and I don't know why this guy keeps repeating it does. This relationship is not for me, but she they do it. He doesn't really seem happy in the article but maybe they are. I don't know. This is ONE couple. Who cares what they do?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No she is not.

" but after much soul-searching about why the idea of my wife having sex with other men bothered me I came to a few conclusions: Monogamy meant I controlled her sexual expression, and, not to get all women’s-studies major about it, patriarchal oppression essentially boils down to a man’s fear that a woman with sexual agency is a woman he can’t control. "

[–]belletaco-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, he came to that conclusion.. not her.. that's really not what feminism is about and this guy is an ass for saying it is.

[–]dan_legend1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"She can't manipulate a man, she is a weak fragile, innocent woman with no agency. And he is a powerful domineering man that just wants to be submissive." -A Feminist.

[–]Amethhyst3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What? Who says this? Judging by the generic 'A feminist', the answer is no one ever, right?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That sentence is so strange it sounds like it came out of the mouth of a bipolar patient my father treats.

[–]dan_legend0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly.
