Men in the Western world are generally accepting of women who defy traditional female gender roles. Your typical Blue Pill millennial guy is happy to date a girl who frames her identity in terms of defiance towards traditional femininity (e.g., "empowered", "independent", "career-focused" and all those buzzwords). My personal experience is that a disproportionate number of Generation Y/millennial women are kind of dudebro-ish in their personalities and tendencies and very much occupy a male social space and men have generally been accepting of this in the relationship arena. You simply can't critique women for not being traditionally feminine without being shamed as insecure or archaic, at least outside of private or anonymous social spaces like TRP.

The same isn't true of men. If anything, our social expectations of men regarding masculinity have become even more exaggerated. Previous eras were characterized by assortive mating where average guys had a fairly strong expectation of finding a comparable mate. Now men need game and there is a lot more emphasis on being "Alpha" or having high social status. Even women on feminist sites like Jezebel or Thought Catalog are quite open about being highly attracted to "bad boy" types and men who embody heightened or even exaggerated masculinity. Emotional vulnerability on the part is men is almost universally acknowledged as unattractive.

I'm curious how people rationalize this?

For example, feminists don't seem to be in any rush to push women to consider approaching and initiating with men more often, or to romantically consider men who are introverted or less assertive. A lot of traditionally masculine traits are accepted as ideals by feminists.

Also, in the same vein, the Red Pill often says society is "feminized". It's possible I come at this from a slightly different perspective, as most of my family and many of my friends are originally from Latin America / Continental Europe and not the US/UK, but the US and UK both strike as places where there's actually a distinct lack of femininity. I associate femininity with women who are demure, warm, caring, domestically-focused, "girly" in aesthetics, etc. I've met very, very, few women like that in the ostensibly "feminized society" that is the US.

Don't get me wrong. A lot of Western men are soft and failing to live up to societal standards regarding masculinity. But it doesn't strike me that they've been "feminized" per se. In general, it seems like Western millennials, of both sexes, really hate anything that smacks of emotional intimacy or vulnerability and basically embody a teenage boy's vision of what being a man is about.

So do you think "feminized" is a proper label for our society?
