Eh, manipulating people knowing that they will get hurt in the end is shitty. End of story.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

but according to TRP, women are unconsciously manipulative by nature are they not?

Also, I wonder whether the pain of being used by an alpha female can force the pill down the young man's throat. The realisation that they are beta is the awakening they need to 'man up' and reach their pinnacle of material, social and physical authority.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Men and women are both capable of amazing good and amazing bad. Treating people like shit is just shitty no matter what the reason is. The pain of being used by someone is not painful if you just realize that some people are shit and most aren't.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -4 points-3 points-2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

but some people are shitty to some people and not shitty to others, largely based off how powerful they feel with them. If they feel MORE powerful with them (the dom of the reship) they are more likely to be shitty, no? Even women who once treated you well scan (indeed will, imo) begin to treat you shitty as the power distribution gap increases.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It depends on what circles you run in as well. There is a reason why the relationships that work best are the least one-sided.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

what circles will avoid this power struggle, pray? Asexual ones, mostly.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Genuinely kind, honest groups of people. Power struggles aren't an issue until someone makes the relationship about power.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

TRP relationships are entirely about power face palm

I am assuming that you do not condone Red Pill relationships.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I do not condone forcing those views upon others. Do what makes you happiest though.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Which doesn't address the OP's question in any way whatsoever.

If you just want to spew out feel-good rhetoric that leads nowhere, there is /r/punchingmorpheus for that.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not worth arguing, I laid it out plainly.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

So a quick google told me they the dread game is making your SO think that there is a looming breakup that they now feel they have to act extra good to avert, correct?

Assuming that is the correct definition, that is a horrible thing to do to someone that cares about you. Making someone think that their relationship is ending might make some act more loving, but for most the stress of being in an unfufilling relationship will make them look for an exit. The only ones who would fall for the dread game are those who already want to be with you, in which case there is no need for a cruel game to make them stay.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yes it is. I have never used it, however my ex has (she would give me the cold shoulder for 3 days straight; I let her off because she may have depression/bipolar).

that is a horrible thing to do to someone that cares about you

just because it's horrible doesn't mean people don't do it. I'd never use this, that's not why I read RP; it's for protection from people who might.

edit: won't say anymore at rip of revealing the fact I came out worryingly as 50% psychopathic

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The OP isn't arguing that people do it, its arguing that it is OK to do so.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Well if you look at current DV laws, it's OK for women to dread game, it's a crime for men to do so (abusive). I certainly don't condone men doing it but it should at least be acknowledged that emotional abuse happens the other way around.

On the other hand, I might go as far to say as that it is good for a man to be manipulated, not morally but a necessary evil, because at least he will keep his game up and know better than to get complacent in the relationship. Imo women are pretty intolerant of complacency (hence our earlier discussion elsewhere re: 'trading up'). This goes back, yet again, to male disposability.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Can your source that law? And not that women got away with it more or got their husbands on it more, in a jury trial its pretty obvious that a crying woman will be believed to have suffered more emotional trauma, but that is a societal problem, not a legal one.

On the other hand, I might go as far to say as that it is good for a man to be manipulated, not morally but a necessary evil, because at least he will keep his game up and know better than to get complacent in the relationship.

I think if someone was getting complacent then they will not be moved by the relationship ending. Being on the edge of a relationship is stressful and you have to care for someone deeply to decide to try harder to make it work. Otherwise the relationship will end, either because they "traded up" because being in an unhappy relationship made them consider other possibilities, or its just a straight breakup.

Imo women are pretty intolerant of complacency

What would you concider complacency? I would consider it not giving a shit about the relationship anymore, someone not trying to do new things or be part of each others day. And I think both men and women would be put off by that.

This goes back, yet again, to male disposability.

I must have missed that, why are males disposable?

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

a societal problem, not a legal one

Sorry, the law isn't set in stone, but the juries are biased towards women. The woman will more often be acquitted in case of suspected assault, rape or DV. I have another thread going on about how a lot of reportings of rape have been fabricated or construed. It's a shame because I am absolutely not a rape apologist and such events should never be lied about, the female victims of genuine rape deserve the time and attention of the courts yet the fabricated cases get in the way (and sometimes ruin men's lives).

Another example: there is a recent case near mine where a young woman was assaulted a man outside a takeout with a glass bottle, possible blinding him-she was acquitted and released within 3 days. Lo and behold, she was pretty hot looking. Not that that is women's fault, btw (genuinely). For sake of anon I cannot share the link.

I think if someone was getting complacent then they will not be moved by the relationship ending

the relationship will end, either because they "traded uP" because being in an unhappy relationship made them condor other possibilities, or it's just a straight break up.

What would you consider complacency?

To be honest, putting on weight, failing to get a promotion, no longer getting flirts or advances from other attractive women-it's not you putting in less effort as you being less successful. Example: my ex was supporting me to get into a band as drummer. I applied but didn't get to the audition because I didn't have my own kit or van, told her; she ignored the text, cold shouldered me and within a couple of days broke up. That suggests to me, that my demonstration of low SMV matters to women.

why are males disposable?

patriarchy made us that way, and some feminists like to exploit a new double standard.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it's not you putting in less effort as you being less successful

I would disagree, I would say that success can be attractive, but that most people would not leave someone because they are unsuccessful, but if they are complacently unsuccessful, i.e they feel that there is no problem in their outcome or approach, then that could be cause for a breakup.

If someone has not been trying to advance their career, like with your drum example if you had not showed effort in trying, or you knew about needing the kit, had an opportunity to get one, and chose not to. Then she could wish to break up because she wants to be in a relationship with someone who is going to make attempts to build a good life.

Or if their failure makes them bitter, like if after your audition you texted her 10 times about how lame it was and how stupid all of the people auditioning are, or tried to downplay her successes to make yourself feel better. Then they could decide that they want to be with a mature person who can handle failure.

Or maybe she was just a bitch who really wanted to date a dude in a band. Or maybe there was a completely unrelated reason that you know nothing about.

patriarchy made us that way, and some feminists like to exploit a new double standard.

Thats really not very helpful. How did patriarchy make you disposable and how are women exploiting it.

Warning: generalizations ahead

I don't think it would work well. Someone thinks their partner has a lot of other options and they need to step up their game, what do they do? Be more eager to please, more doting, more clingy. That's exactly what makes men less sexually attractive in relationships. You're taking a man with a low SMV and making it even lower. I'm not sure where I stand on the morality of it, but it's certainly unfortunate for all parties involved to find someone who isn't that attractive, hook them in, and then willfully making them even less attractive so that they feel they have to fight to be in your life since no one else will have them.

[–]MissPearlEditor of frequent typos.1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Right. I also find 'dread' doesn't actually work very well on me- if I think a partner is getting disinvested in me, I tend to go into brace for impact mode, which is to say my emotional connection weakens. I start giving them more space and looking to other parts of my life for happiness.

My experience, which I'd anecdotal, shows that both genders like the illusion of competition that they are smoking. The act of a person being desired by other party or parties can be quite thrilling, and something both genders use for intragender competition.

My experience beyond that is that focusing on yourself (eg going to the gym more) is also a unisex way to shake things up a bit, and that it is not a bad thing to be aware of the ebb and flow of attention. For example the silent treatment is immature and crude, but being able to say "I need to focus on me now" for an evening or a weekend is not- it's good for both of you to get to miss each other.

This is filtered through self perception, but my unscientific observation is that one of the things that is seductive is having your own thing and creating a situation where this individualism allows some exceptions for really special people.

Anyone can, of course, keep their partner exhausted by constantly threatening to leave. This is stupid and unhealthy - among many things sustaining it sincerely implies being dissatisfied with your current partner and having little enough self respect to drag out a relationship.

I have noticed a lot of guys get Mario syndrome- ie the pursuit of someone is made sweeter by the idea that there is an oponent, ideally they can rescue the person from- Princess Peach's draw being as much about the oppurtunity to beat Bowser as just being inherently attractive. In my impression of female behaviour, women will also cast themselves as the sweet, down to earth real woman versus their rivals.

Both genders seem naturally inclined to let love make them claim the beloved is special. But mate choice can also be used to underline specialness too- so you can also use the presence of theoretic or real rivals to boost a partner's confidence.

My Gentleman likes that, left alone, I'm pretty magnetic to male attention, but that he can come up to me, throw his arm over my shoulder and watch the other guy vanish. I know he prefers me to be tempting - meanwhile I'm amused he tends to collect the prettiest women in the room partially because I know that him picking me over them gives me childish but delightful ego boosts. We both know, and have discussed that some of this attraction of others takes effort on our parts- if I dressed like a frump and got a permascowl I could expect male attention to decline- likewise if he was standoffish or neckbeardy in public, he wouldn't end up in a lady bubble. Effectively maintaining our respective glow helps the pair bond even if it technically allows us more over all choice.

[–]BakerofpieRed Pill Woman2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dread to any extent beyond what you mentioned - generally keeping up our appearances and staying attractive in general - has the same effect on me. Done too heavily and I simply become detached and no longer care what the other person does. It has caused extreme turmoil in our relationship when my husband went overboard, to the point where I was considering ending things. Why would I want to be with someone who doesn't care about me and acts as though they are constantly on the prowl? I am not willing to actively compete to keep my mate. If he is constantly chatting up other women as though looking for the next best thing I'm not going to continue wasting my efforts.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Be more eager to please, more doting, more clingy. That's exactly what makes men less sexually attractive in relationships. You're taking a man with a low SMV and making it even lower.

That's the problem if the problems women have in relationships are generally highlighted from a perspective where the power dynamic works in favor of the man; i.e. it's indeed the "dose of beta among all the alpha" that makes a woman happier.

Men who grow up internalizing that mindset (being unconditionally attentive and affectionate makes women happy) start thinking that the best way of pleasing a woman is one that pretty much only works if she is worried about you staying with her, and not of whether she is the one who should stay with you.

[–]BakerofpieRed Pill Woman2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If a man is low SMV then the power structure is already tilted toward the woman. I associate low levels of attractiveness and general low SMV with a large lack of confidence, possible poor social skills, limited experience with women. Those combine to make an already clingy man even more clingy.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

being unconditionally attentive and affectionate makes women happy

no, it puts you in the friend zone quickly. She wants attention and affection not a lapdog-and personally I believe most women regularly shit-test for lapdogs, when they meet one they act accordingly.

start thinking that the best way of pleasing a woman is one that pretty much only works if she is worried about you staying with her, and not of whether she is the one who should stay with you.

…No? Men who grow up white-knighting girls don't know about dread game and think the friend-zone is a myth.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What? No, that's not how to step up your game, that's getting whipped. This is how you step up your game: hit the gym more, start talking to more women independent of your SO, get a promotion, spend more hours in the office, by some more clothes, get a new car, build on a talent. If she starts disrespecting you, neg her if she gets a wee cocky. If all else fails start with the cold shouldering, I know that's a good way to get a nice gut wrenching feeling in someone for a few days that leaves them begging for more haha

edit: I was dread gamed by my ex, I'm too beta pussy to dread game back

[–]BakerofpieRed Pill Woman1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean that if a man is already a low value beta he is unlikely to realize those are the things he needs to do. Most of them are going to "nice guy" even harder thinking that is how to step up their game.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well then break his heart and teach him how the world really works ;)

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Of course it's "ok". Nothing in TRP is about "what's ok". Just being the higher value partner is "dread game", why would you even have to dread game a lower value male?

[–]Xemnas81[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because it's fun!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Really, you think it's fun to apply "dread game" randomly to someone who doesn't merit it? Do you believe that's what TRP is recommending?

[–]Xemnas81[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

erm…yep, least if you're somewhere on DT!

You yourself said it's not OK (as in morally acceptable). The question is, what is going to save your ass at the end of the day? Because nobody really cares if it's kicked, we men are disposable, and our girlfriends and wives see us that way too.

And also yes I think a lot of women, especially young and attractive ones, play head games with Bps, betas and guys they are with but suspect are turning BP/beta-for kicks, frankly. If insecure for validation, if aware in their attractiveness, simply because they can. I mean, if you had the power to fuck everyone over and they couldn't do anything about it, are you really going to say you wouldn't?

Now, when dealing with RPs and Alphas, they do shit-tests, partly as the name suggest to test whether you're true RP/Alpha, partly because…idk, again it's fun, two sharp minds pitting against each other like Sherlock and The Woman. The sheer wit and ingenuity that may be involved would be a nice challenge.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TRP recommends dread game to keep a relationship with a high value woman on a more level field or tilted in favor of the man because of the overwhelming amount of options available to an attractive woman and the penchant of women to disrespect men and grow bored with them as soon as they sense they "have" him. RP does not recommend dread gaming for shits and giggles and if you think it doesm you're misreading it and anyone SAYING it there is misrepresents it. I am highly DT and have no interest in toying with others for fun, I have low interest in others period

[–]ReginleiferOnly Zombies want female brains2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's more than OK, but you run the risk of losing your SO.....same as with a man, so that's why TRP usually considers it last resort and not to be used as a fix all.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That sounds pretty poor for TRP. People not working on their Dark Triad?

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (44 children) | Copy Link

Can someone explain to me why dread game is considered manipulative? Isn't it basically saying "change or I'm leaving you"?

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And the new terms and definitions post in the front page. So I stand corrected. I guess the first few times I read about it, it was misused.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Let me ask you this: You enter into an LTR with an extremely attractive woman who has lots of options. By what means will you ensure she continues treating you with respect and continue giving you hot pre-commitment sex once she's "got you", specifically, how will you accomplish this?

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my past relationships, I was always the one who lost interest in sex. I get bored with the same woman.

So, basically, I don't have an answer to this (although my guess is that you'd suggest dread game). But I don't like relationships, and if I did, I'd have other issues to fix first.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You increase self-SMV and have lots of options yourself, duh. Fight fire with fire.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How do you communicate that you have these options to her? Verbally?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

I think the logic behind calling it manipulation is that is coerces someone to makes said changes even if they aren't in the state of mind to make such a decision. It's a way of influencing another person's actions that may sometimes not be of their will.

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

So wait, do you think it's manipulation? Is this your opinion or are you making an argument on behalf of a blue-piller?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

That is my personal opinion, but I think TBP generally echoes this sentiment as well. Don't take my word for it though.

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Why do you think it's coercion? If it's a bluff I can agree, but if it's not, I see it as establishing a boundary and being nothing but honest. It's not forcing anyone to do anything. It's saying "xyz behavior is a deal breaker for me."

What's the alternative? Leave them without explanation? Stay in a relationship you don't want to be in anymore?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It depends on the context. If the relationship is emotionally abusive, no doubt it is coercion. The alternative, in my eyes is literally just to talk and work with them if you think it's something that is worth your time and effort. If you don't want to be in a relationship, it's cool to walk, no issue with that, but the idea that if they don't make xyz changes you will walk can be construed as a threat, especially in the right context.

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Still don't get it, but I don't think further discussion is going to help. Thanks though.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I assume /u/strategicatomicmoose is discerning between a person who has legitimate complains about the relationship and/or the partner which are a dealbreaker for him or her if not resolved; and a person who is the more powerful party in a relationship and abuses that fact to coerce the partner to follow each and every whim under the threat of a breakup (or at the very least withholding affection).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That is exactly it. It's a fine line.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I thought that it (dread game) tends to be used whenever a woman "pushes her luck" or something, part of the take-no-prisoners Alpha philosophy.

I will say this, communicating that you have expectations isn't bad, it's a good thing in fact. However, dread game, based on the link from /u/literated, is absolutely abusive.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Does TRP condone abuse?

And anyway, I'm arguing that would it be considered abusive if it happened to a man anyway? Law hardly recognises DV as male-inclusive.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TRP doesn't discourage subtle abuse, but I wouldn't say it endorses it openly.

[–]niczarRed Pill Man0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

is that is coerces

Manipulation is the technical opposite of coercition, though they are of equal function. In other words, both are about obtaining a particular behavior from someone else, but the means of achieving it are polar opposites. One is covert and non-violent, the other is by definition overt and violent (in the broadest sense of the world, i.e. not necessarily physical violence).

[–]Ignatius_Oh_Reilly0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It is their will. They can say fuck it, it's not worth it I'll leave. In fact I expect most people would. Anyone can and should dread game anyone.

Maybe it's just cause leaving never bothered me, but I don't see how it's even game. You don't want me to go do X, if not doing X is worth more than more company just don't do it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It depends, the way that one goes about it determines whether the other person makes the decision to stay or leave on their own accord. /u/literated linked to some examples of dread game that I kinda overlooked, and all of those are passive aggressive as shit and are made to emotionally break someone, rather than to let them have control over their own actions.

[–]Ignatius_Oh_Reilly0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Just read the link. Personally it seems a little convuluted to work. If someone stays after that isn't that their fault? People have control over their own actions. In this instance linked the woman is choosing to stay.

I just can't feel bad for someone who does something to themselves and that angry at someone for making an opportunity out of that. Otherwise who'd make money at car dealerships.

Is it manipulative. Well it would be silly to argue it isn't.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Eh, if that is the definition of dread game, it is textbook abuse, whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

[–]Ignatius_Oh_Reilly-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

It's manipulation but it's an overly widened definition of abuse to call it so. Not everything not very kind hearted is abuse.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I absolutely can be abusive, it doesn't have to be that way

[–]Xemnas81[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's emotional abuse

[–]Ignatius_Oh_Reilly-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Like cybersex is sex, or homeopathy is part of the healthcare field imho

It's certainly not nice and a bit more than I would personally do but calling it abuse is hyperbole

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a stretch even though it meets the textbook definition?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link

I think what they object to is that its action, not endless discussion and "communication". It's showing the other person you have options emotionally, not verbally. It causes pain

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I do think it's important to remain attractive and have other options. Not that you would ever act on those options while committed, but I think it's unhealthy to stay in a dead relationship because you don't have anywhere else to go.

But I also think it's unhealthy to play the games in that heartiste article, too.

This is a long-winded, angry response I used in argument against someone trying to sell the benefits of dread game to me, so bear with the personal-sounding and raging essay:

"I have a related anecdote. When I was 13, I was too lazy to take out my own trash. You know, typical 13 year-old BS. Now, my stepdad had a rather unique method of reminding me to take the trash out: He would simply leave the bag by the front door.

There were four of us total who lived in the house, yet this singular "matter of choice and consequence" was supposed to solely reach me. That trash bag was my problem and I had to deal with it. The problem with passive aggression is, what other ways could "allowing your actions speak for you" be interpreted?

Well, maybe someone else was going to take it out later. Maybe we were going to do something special with that particular bag of trash--maybe it's a donation? I don't know, it's a fucking trash bag with shit in it by the front door. If I decided to take it out, as I should have, I ran the risk of making the mistake of, "oh powerkick, where did this bag of gold bullion go? You threw it out? Why the fuck did you throw it out?"

Being anxious about accidentally making mistakes, I played it safe, which is obviously also making a mistake because that trash bag did not, in fact contain gold bullion, but instead hundreds of used, balled-up tissues.

I had difficulty translating "dread game" regarding a fucking TRASH BAG. How on God's green, dangerous earth is your SO supposed to translate your passive aggression? "Is he hungry?" "Is he horny?" "Maybe he had a bad day at work."

I want to finish here, but I can't. I MUST throw a hypothetical situation at you in order to demonstrate how ineffective dread game (rebranded passive aggression in case you still haven't gotten the message) is.

Let's say you are on one side of the river and there is somebody else on the other side. Let's say there's a puma behind him that's going to eat him unless you clue him in and he somehow manages to escape with his life. The catch is, you can only "allow your actions speak for you."

See where this is going? No you don't. I'll continue

What possible combination of charades could possibly signal, "THERE'S A GIANT CARNIVOROUS CAT BEHIND YOU!" in any effective manner? Maybe you jump up and down? Wave your hands in the air? Motion him to circle around? Run away yourself in order to convey that there is danger nearby? There's a chance the bystander won't even SEE you, let alone translate your mess of signals in time to avoid being eaten.

And you think dread game is an ART?!"

TL;DR: No, there better ways to communicate that don't involve dehumanizing your SO.

[–]Tombstone31Purple Pill Man2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

So what are examples of dread game to you? I always thought it was explicitly saying "change or I'm leaving." Not cutting off communication or other passive aggressive behavior.

Edit: never mind, it was explained to me elsewhere in this thread.

[–]Xemnas81[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, looks like my ex dread gamed me good. I got a fair bit of cold shoulder and gas lighting some days. I let her off because she had depression, or bipolar, haven't figured out which.

And you think dread game is an ART?!

I feel like you're missing the point. Isn't the whole method, that you treat them shitty, sometimes for a minor reason, sometimes no reason at all even, without telling them why or exactly how, to fuck with their head so that even if they don't know what they did wrong, they feel guilty and awful, and frankly scared, so that next time they will be obedient?

I mean you've got to admire there's a certain beauty in it. Look how your dad scared you

Being anxious about accidentally making mistakes

You're 13 and you don't know where you're going wrong and no-one's going to tell you, so to show their disappointment they punish you by making you feel you could be doing anything wrong. It's sickeningly creative.

there better ways to communicate that don't involve duhmanizing your SO

pretty sure dread game doesn't give a shit about "dehumanising" people, it's a question of personal power balances, that you will always fucking win. No?

Just something in general: I think dread game is far too often conflated with nuclear dread, aka the direct threat of a breakup to force a partner into compliance, which is a far too simplicistic view. I've already written a longer post about its nuances, though it's actually mostly quotes, special thanks to Rollo Tomassi (1, 2, 3).

The problem here is also one of semantics - "dread" sounds more catchy, but that way it's prone to be equated with terror, threats and blackmail, especially in here (though admittedly inside the redpill community it's also predominantly used as such).

To illustrate the fundamental function of dread, let's simply put it on its head: The absence of "dread" is "taking your SO for granted". And this is to be taken literally - it doesn't just mean "relying on your SO" or "trusting your SO" (which are positive things and in an ideal relationship should both be a given and justified). Someone who takes his partner for granted, who can't imagine him/her actually leaving or just asserting him/herself, who stops appreciating the efforts the partner makes (because they're perceived to be a given), who doesn't appreciate the fact that his or her efforts are enabling one to live life as it is (and can concentrate on the instances where the partner is inconveniencing him instead) - that is a person who doesn't feel dread. It may work out, but usually it only fosters complacency and, in the long run, resentment because the lack of appreciation prevents one from seeing the positive things (and believe me, I've seen it turn out exactly like that all too often to think it's just a coincidence or just extraordinarily shitty people who treat their partners like that).

Dread in that regard is simply the realization that your partner not being present is a real possibility and that your life would be worse without him or her (whether that feeling is justified or not); but it can also work in a different function; and it certainly doesn't necessarily entail the nuclear option of the "do that or else"-approach, but can also work at levels that are lower - a lot lower. Here are some of the more refined nuances of dread one of the patron saints of the manosphere wrote about (emphasis mine):

Although I’ve suggested casually returning flirtations with other women as a means to amplifying desire and illustrating social proof, this is hardly the only, or best, means of fostering competition anxiety. Overt flirtations are a blunt means of stoking this anxiety, but often all it takes is a nuanced shift in a predictable routine to trigger that imagination. The idea isn’t to instill terror from fear of loss, but rather to demonstrate higher value; particularly when a woman’s attention is straying into comfortable, routine familiarity and she begins seeking indignation from other sources.

Sometimes all that’s necessary to provoke that imagination is to get to the gym, dress better, get a raise, travel for work, change your routine, adopt a Game mentality, hang out with a new (or old) friend, be cocky & funny with her – risk to offend her sensibilities. [...]

In light of this ambient fear of loss women seek to avoid, one might be tempted to use a more sympathetic approach in order to allay a woman’s fears. This is hardly worth mentioning here since this is generally the tact that most men intuitively use in their LTRs anyway – a constant reassurance of love and devotion. Guy’s like my friend Jim will follow a perpetual strategy of appeasement in spite of themselves.

Lets be clear, the vast majority of women are secure enough not to allow this condition to get the better of them, and it’s in the extreme cases I’ve used above that real neuroticism flourishes. Contrary to popular belief I’m not an advocate of the Dark Triad methodologies of Game. Not because I think they’re ineffective, but rather because, with the right art of Game they’re not even needed. Only in extreme cases are the dark arts to be employed, and if a situation necessitates their use it’s important for a guy to understand that a line has been crossed with a woman who necessitated their use.

So yes, you should be seeking to reassure an LTR of your love and devotion, but know that due to women’s intrinsic fear of security loss, you will never achieve an ideal state of contentment of it, and certainly not by relying solely on comfort and familiarity. She want’s you to rock the boat, it’s what makes her feel alive.

And:

[...] returning casual flirtations is actually a compliment to the woman a Man is with. It satisfies that internal, hypergamous doubt as to whether the guy a woman committed herself to years ago is still the Man other men want to be and other women want to fuck.

[...]

An LTR based on dread, a threat, or an implied ultimatum isn’t one based on genuine desire, and you know enough about my philosophy to understand how important real desire is to me. I think of it more as an ambient understanding that a Man is still desired by other women and this manifests in flirtatious behavior. Obviously if a guy is overtly seeking out opportunities to flaunt his flirtations with his LTR, that’d be indicative of him having other issues to resolve for himself. Guy’s thoroughly underestimate women’s sensitivity to nuance and subcommunication; it doesn’t take much to trigger her imaginings, but most guys think they need to beat her over the head with what he wants her to get; and that of course defeats his purpose – he’s too obvious.

And an example:

Mrs. Tomassi and I were recently talking with a woman of about 49. She’s the ever-present front desk host at our gym and a casual acquaintance and friend. She’s not particularly unattractive for her age, reasonably good shape from a body perspective – I can tell she used to enjoy a lot of male attention in her 20s and maybe 30′s – but now just this side of 50 she’s moved not so much into a regret stage, but rather a hopeful sense of well post-Wall self-remorse. That might sound odd, but she’s at least optimistic about her ‘chances’ of getting with a “good man” in the near future.

She’s quite upfront and honest about the Alpha Bad Boy Jerks she’s dated, married one and then divorced from her past. In fact she’s one of the more lucid women I’ve encountered about her present state and how she came to it. Although she’s the typical result of a hypergamous life prolonged past the “eating her cake too” phase, she owns her mistakes.

Although we generally hit Gold’s at different times, occasionally the wife and I go together in the mornings. It was on one of these mornings, and our friend at the counter stopped us to say,

“I love you guys, I really do. I see a lot of people pass through here but when I see you both together it gives me hope that I can have a good relationship like you two. You’re such a team, I really hope I can meet a guy I can connect with like that.”

We were on our way out, and she always has something else to say about her personal life so, while I guess I was somewhat flattered, I didn’t pay it much mind. That is until our ride back home when Mrs. Tomassi looked me square in the face and said, “I am so glad I didn’t end up like that!” I was actually kind of surprised at the tone of her voice. “Thank God that’s not me, how horrible to be in that position at her age.” I nodded my head because I knew she was expecting my usually analyzations of post-Wall women and the beds they make. Then, with a hint of a tear in her eye, she gave me one of the best compliments I’ve ever heard from her, “I hope Bebé finds and marries a Man just like you.”

That made me feel really good, and what I’m about to type here sound really shitty. After not a small swell of pride, I thought, while it’s nice to be appreciated in this respect, would this realization have come without the influence of our friend and her state of life?

You see, what I experienced that morning was a sort of de fact association of social proof. Granted, I’m not taking anything away from the love and solidity upon which my marriage and our relationship is founded on, but was I just the right guy in the right place for this realization to come to awareness? What I had just participated in was a form of soft dread. A dread that needs no emphasis or prompting from a Man, simply the occasion for it to come to the surface to be actualized.

if you think in the mind set of right and wrong you have already lost to somebody who has a lesser moral compass then you.

Doing any kind of manipulation will put you ahead, so it is about a personal gain.

Is it wrong, yes the second you start abusing somebody else's emotions you are in the wrong.

Can you do it? of course you can

Should you do it? Meh prob not but hey I ain't going to judge you for taking every advantage you can get.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

BP? Consciously or unconsciously? Because if you're a consciously BP male, you're consciously submissive, and that's what you damn well signed up for. Who am I to say you're not allowed to like what you like?

But if a dude doesn't know any better and the woman does know better, then no, that ain't cool. But the chips will fall where they may. What can you do about it? Nothing.

CMV

Why? I'm not BP. IDGAF what you do. You do you.

Honestly, if done right, this seems like the most accurate parallel to a man dread gaming a girl. I have no problems with this, just as I have no problems if a man dread games his SO right.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

…Not really? This is you telling me to carry on my business. BPers could do that.

Dread game would be more like, "oh he's my best friend and work colleague but he disagrees with my views and won't do all my paperwork for me while I go hit the bar, the little cocky bitch...I'm going to turn off my phone for 5 days so that he thinks I'm in hospital, and ignore his birthday, hopefully he'll lose sleep and know not to fuck with me again. Beta/hamster should know their place". Except the best friend is almost always a sexual interest. At least, if we define dread-game by the Heartiste article above .

edit: I do not condone this btw

[–]an_absolute_roseRed Pill Boy0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So if other red pillers were wondering what Blue pillers thought dread game is here:

Dread game would be more like, "oh he's my best friend and work colleague but he disagrees with my views and won't do all my paperwork for me while I go hit the bar, the little cocky bitch...I'm going to turn off my phone for 5 days so that he thinks I'm in hospital, and ignore his birthday, hopefully he'll lose sleep and know not to fuck with me again. Beta/hamster should know their place". Except the best friend is almost always a sexual interest.

If that's what you took from the article I suggest trying to re-read with an open mind.

Dread game is usually applied when inevitably the woman decides that sex is no longer part of the relationship. A man could subtly remind his woman that he has options who will fuck him by simply hanging out with attractive women.

The parallel involved would have the following example:

A woman dates a guy for his personality but he isn't as outgoing or big enough so she dread games him by taking him out to parties in a way that him encourages him to become more social, or taking him to the gym and hanging out muscular men.

[–]Xemnas81[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So what AM I describing hmm?

when inevitably the woman decides that sex is no longer part of the relationship

Ah, because women inevitably lean to seek higher value men due to hypergamous and polygamous nature, am I right?

A man could subtly remind his woman that he has options

yeah, my ex did this (I'm a guy) with her guy friend.

That last example: yep I think that's pretty common actually, was surprised when people said it's not. Nothing motivates you to get off you ass and be a man more than your woman deciding to feel up the biceps of the bigger guys than you in the gym while cold-shouldering you for the entire time.

[–]an_absolute_roseRed Pill Boy0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah, because women inevitably lean to seek higher value men due to hypergamous and polygamous nature, am I right?

This has nothing to do with what I said, but yes it is true.

That last example: yep I think that's pretty common actually, was surprised when people said it's not. Nothing motivates you to get off you ass and be a man more than your woman deciding to feel up the biceps of the bigger guys than you in the gym while cold-shouldering you for the entire time.

I said it was the best parallel, I didn't say that it was good. Most men would react like you said in that scenario. I stand by saying that it could work if done right as opposed to every other thread about this topic.
