Dear wifefuckers,

I feel the need of a live rolemodel. When I was working out by myself, I thought I'm a monster until I went to the gym. Even in the gym, my lifting progress profile seems good when measuring myself up to my past until I see the guy next to me warming up with my max weight. All the authors of our sidebar books and the good posts here, talk about their experience as something we should aim for.

I'm in a spiritual retreat trip during Christmas. I listen to plenty of talks and I love how rolemodeling work. Even though some stories get out of context to fit some narratives, people do measure themselves up to these great (and ancient) figures. I also see how Red Pill Christians take Jesus as their role model, from their prospective, as an integrated man who builds society with utmost masculinity. But who do we measure ourselves to?

I was at the gym yesterday and felt like a beast with my 6’0 182lb body then looked next to the hawt dude next to me he was about 6’2 220 lbs of solid muscle his arms all tattooed up. I watched in amazement as he warmed up with 175 OHP

I left the gym immediately and vowed never to go back. Those big men are scary and intimidating.

I went straight home and told my wife all about what I witnessed. She reassured me that I have nothing to worry about and that she doesn’t like men with big strong muscles and it’s best that I just stay home and do body weight exercises in the basement

Weirdly enough she asked if I took any pictures.

I go to the gym for me. The guy putting up 175 and standing next to him did make me feel small. It takes hard word and dedication to get that big and admire that guys commitment

Some guys win the genetic lottery. My Dutchman Friend he’s 6’2 220 lbs of natural muscle. He’s not jacked nor is he fat he might go to the gym 50 times a year

I’ve known the guy since he was 16. Won’t say it’s impossible. But unlikely I didn’t hear a hit it

I had another friend in one group that was my size 6’0 170lbs that did several cycles and hit the gym and went up to 230 and maintains it and is a firemen for Detroit fire department and is a beast now.

Here's how I do it. YMMV. I do goals then back into mission then back into role models.

Goals

Write down every area of your life you care about. Family. Faith. Finances. Fun. Fucking. All of it.

Figure out what you want to achieve, lifetime, in each of those categories and how you want to achieve it. Set long term goals and then break them into short term goals. SMART - specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely.

Start a new page and think about the characteristics of the man who could - and did - achieve all of that. He's probably disciplined. Controlled. Ferocious. Funny. A great host. Etc. Write down a plan on how you are going to develop all those characteristics. What are you going to work on and when? Specific, measurable...

Mission

Your short-term mission is now to grow into the man that can do all that shit. Then, you should do whatever you want using those characteristics, skills, etc. as leverage. TWOTSM talks about figuratively screwing the world with your masculine essence as your mission / gift to the world. That's a little hippy for me but to each their own.

Find out what a man with the achievements and characteristics you want should do - in your own judgment. That's probably not your real long-term mission but it's likely close enough for now.

Role Model

Measure yourself against the you that starts where you are right now but actually gives a shit and is disciplined. That's your main role model / competitor.

Your secondary role models should be the older men who have achieved something - that you admire - with their lives and you have interjected yourself into their world to learn from them.

I have always wanted that and it sounds like you have daddy issues like yours truly.

My old man died this year and I internalized the truth that no one is coming and I am on my own. I will probably never get a mentor or someone to inspire me that I can look up to. Men are flawed. There is no perfect man to look up to in totality. Each man has his own merit even if he is weak in other areas.

One of my mentors is a drunk but he is full of wisdom and brilliance. I eat the meat and spit the bones. I don't consult him for health and wellness advice but I will consult him on business or relationships.

Your whole outlook seems wrong.

Being confident and thinking highly of yourself is great but you absolutely have to couple it with an intense focus on what you could do better. Most people stall in their progress because they don’t constantly seek to improve.

You should take pride in how you constantly learn more, understand deeper, find things that can be improved and work consistently to be better - and very little else.

Take lifting. Once all the beginner advice is out of the way, the number one thing to learn is plateua busting. The ability to quickly spot a stall, figure out the limiting factor, fixing it and pushing past it is what will make you hellishly strong.

It is the same with everything else. Frame, game, work, BJJ, anything. It’s about acceleration, not speed. Keep your foot hard on the gas instead of getting impressed by how fast you’re going.
