I'm a lawyer, but I never had to deal with that problem. The reason for that is that I don't look like a lawyer, but rather some grade A douchebag.

I read a post on one of the popular pick up sites out there awhile ago that said you need to show that you're not boyfriend material. If a girl sees you as a potential provider she's going to be more likely to hold out on sex to appear higher value. It's best to be forward with what you're looking for and to avoid being viewed as a beta in her mind. Follow RP principles and you should be able make your way through it.

I have this problem as well. I am an architect/engineer working for a major company that is actually cool.

I knew my last date was attracted to me, and all over me, but as soon as she started learning on what I do (lead major projects, travel to great locations) and that I own my own place in Manhattan (major mistake in mentioning this), she started to actually hold back a bit, and eventually resisted to go home with me, yet continuously making out, and basically leaving me with blue balls at the end of the night.

Everyone says "lie about what you do" but no one agrees on specifics

I'm in the "dress in a t-shirt and jeans from wal-mart and tell them you're a janitor/garbageman/plumber" camp, because it's such an effective screen. There's no way a woman looking for a meal ticket will lead you on if you do that. If a woman's showing interest in you she wants to fuck, not to extract resources.

Downside is that if you're short, weak, obese, have unattractive tics or whatever your approach to sex ratio will be terrible.

I work in health care and I can tell you that doctors really don't have the time to be spinning plates or what not. All of their time is pretty much spent on their craft. They also have nurses constantly throwing themselves at them but they really are too worried about risking their careers to capitalize on it. Also I think it's possible to use your profession to bait chicks in. If you have a position like a doctor chicks really will do anything to try to get you and keep you.

This is an internal issue. The reason you have this anxiousness is because most likely, you lack experience. All of those years you spent studying the MCAT, molecular biology, and random taxonomy didn't go to real life experiences with women.
