What’s even crazier is the logic behind it. A women on ((twitter)) explained that the reason they say “all men” is because if they say just “some men” or “most men” that it will not account for the other men they didn’t mention and by acknowledging their statement your part of the problem? So it’s like why don’t you specifically just say who you are talking about and generalize a whole gender.

Depends on whether we're using it to counter descriptive or normative claims. Sometimes it's a fruitful comment, sometimes it's plain derailing, sometimes you're taking the bait and feeding yourself to the trolls

It's usually because she's actually talking about a specific man and "not all men" comes off as trying to defend that one guy she's actually bitching about.

Example:

Her: I was raped. Why are men always rapists.

It's ridiculous to get upset if someone says "not all men", just like you shouldn't get upset if someone says "not all women". It can be difficult to tell when someone is speaking in generalities vs actually claiming an entire sex is X or does Y.

Im a firm believer in AMALT just as well as AWALT. The problem is that women are idiots and assign men behaviors that DON'T apply to all men. No, not all men are rapists and not all men are cheaters. In fact it's only a minority of men that are these things. What all men have is a desire for sexual variety and would probably rape if we lived in a lawless society.
