I know a lesbian who saw a lawyer and got paperwork drawn up for her sperm donor who was a family friend. In Alabama. They didn't use a clinic at all (edit: turkey baster via the lesbian's now ex-lover, apparently). I know both parties and the wife of the donor, it's all legit. If both bio parents are in agreement to terminate one's rights, it is apparently fairly cheap (edit: between legal fees and her payment to the donor, she spent about $1200 - compared to $15K+ for bank donor and IVF).
Edit: The Uniform Parentage Act protects donors. Yes, in some cases, for example, if the donor later takes on fatherly roles, donors can be held financially responsible. Glad the comments got me to look up that. In this situation, the donor and his wife are the God parents to the baby and the whole lot of them and their kids have play dates, baby sit, celebrate holidays etc.. so yea, he probably could be held responsible but it doesn't seem like they mind.

Right. The public policy is that if you're the source of the sperm, the source of 1/2 of the DNA that went into producing that child, you will have to pay if no other sources can be found. That's the case even if you're an anonymous sperm donor.
The policy behind the decisions is that we have to have someone pay, someone other than taxpayers. We cannot have a child going on the welfare rolls or becoming a ward of the state because the adoptive parents cannot support the child or are dead, or because the mother didn't seek support. A child's poverty is a matter of public interest because the public has to foot the bill if a responsible deep pocket walking wallet money tree adult cannot be found.
And so when a responsible deep pocket, walking wallet, money tree IS found, he (it's always a he) will be required to pay. You're the last resort, the bottom of the barrel. If the child has no parents and no other family willing to take him, you, the anonymous sperm donor, will be forced to pay up.
It's a slight risk because responsible adults can usually be found. But if you draw the short stick, and you're the only "family" who can be identified, you will be stuck with the bill.

That may be the case in some situations but they went through the same legal process as if she used a sperm bank donor. You can find sperm or egg donors, surrogates, and adoptive parents privately/independently and get all the same protections with proper court proceedings.

You can't sign away your rights (that's an illegal contract), and you sure as hell can't sign away the rights of a minor (by denying your baby child support). So I don't buy it. It's "cheap", because it doesn't work and is not enforceable. This man is a fool. A sperm donor is, legally, a father.

It's just too easy and consequence-free to renege on such a "promise". Her relationship doesn't even have to fall apart (same-sex couples have far lower long term success rate than straight couples), they just have to realize they can get thousands of dollars from you for the next 20 years, and get half of the kid's college tuition paid for, just by filling out a few forms. And if she wants to be really malicious, she can even levy a rape accusation at you for getting her impregnated in the first place and then forcing her to sign the documents.
You really have to be a special kind of stupid to fall for something like this. AWALT. If you're not using a fertility clinic, that means you had actual sex with her, so you have literally no outs.

My english teacher roasted me on commas. I had a habit of putting a comma anywhere a speaker would naturally pause. My teacher explained only use commas where they change the meaning of a sentence. Aka the old joke "let's eat grandma" and "let's eat, grandma"
Either way this is the internet and there are no rules but that's what helped me.

Depends on the state. Some states have "equitable paternity" that can require you to pay child support even if a paternity test comes back negative. Generally you have to "act" as the father. Cohabitation is one way this is determined.

If she does that she is also weaponizing your kids against you and creating an all around nightmare for them and you. You are far better off enjoying yourself and your life and removing the mindset that being in a relationship is attainable. Once you do this, and prove that you are indifferent to women and their interactions, they become increasingly more attentive to you. They want a man that isn't phased by them, a challenge for them break down your barriers so that you are not easily stolen from them by other women. They are competing against other women for you, not you for them.
