I can only fathom one reason a 'good man' (as judged externally) would date her.

She drinks, does drugs, smokes so much she calls it out, if extremely obese, and is very inactive. It wouldn't take much for a decent looking man dating her to push her into ever increasingly unhealthy habits until she dies or at least becomes completely unable to protect her daughter. Hell, her lack of dating experience means she would be far less likely to pick up on any creep vibes.

I'm not trying to say the average man would do that. There is nothing about her that is worth a man committing to at all and so the average man absolutely wouldn't. Therefor if I saw a man who, by all external accounts looked to count as a good man, committing to her I'd suspect either blackmailing him into the relationship or that he is targeting the daughter.
