I wouldn’t say it’s beta, but it’s not the move. You need to make him irrelevant, because he’s beneath you and not an impediment to what you want. I don’t know the context so it’s tough to know what to say, but when a woman I think is giving me an opportunity talks about her boyfriend I shut it down. There’s no upside.

If she’s trying to get you to make fun of him with her, she wants validation for her contempt for him. Give her nothing.
