A friend of mine has a wife that has a degree in mechanical engineering and she's been a SAHM for the past 4 years. She was lamenting about how she's just trying to help her husband be successful in his pursuits so that she doesnt have to go back to work. She has no desire to use her degree, and dreads the idea of working with a bunch of dudes that would "judge her for not being smart". Her words: "I didn't know how a refrigerator worked until a few years ago, and all these dudes I worked with grew up taking them apart... its hard to compete with that".

Astonishing that this woman is a qualified engineer and yet doesn't have a clue how to use any of these perishable skills. The longer she stays out of the industry, the less relevant she'll be. Crazy.
