I'm old and I don't want someone "by my side", whatever the hell that means. I thought I did when I was in my 20s. I got married for 20 years. Got divorced and enjoy my peace and quiet. I have friends. I have some activities. I enjoy hanging at odd bars that have local live bands on the weekends.

My opinion is that people saying that are projecting their own fears. Maybe this is all and introvert/extrovert thing. I'm an introvert and I enjoy time to myself. I have a retirement job doing IT support and I interact with people every day. I also have a quiet locked office where I can work without being disturbed. I want a house that is quiet when I get home.

50s, married 20 yrs then divorced. My still married friends truly are like mules yoked to the cart; their wives have grown haggard but they are still pulling the load financially, emotionally, etc, with very little reward or peace in their lives. Whereas I own my home, no mortgage, own car no loan, travel where & when as I want, am moving on to a 3rd career that is what deeply interests me without having to worry about how much or how little it pays. Also, I contribute both time & money to charities, have a good group of friends close by and far away (mostly men but some women & couples), & while I decline to participate I have regular opportunities for sexcapades if I so choose. Some of my MGTOW buds this age have dogs; I don’t currently because I’m on the move too much but I’m expecting to build my own home in the next 10 years so may get a companion animal down the line. I see the doctor on the regular just to confirm what’s working & what needs work, I don’t see how having a partner would enhance this life but I know from long experience how a woman will derail your dreams on the daily because her attitude is if you’re not there to serve her wholeheartedly, she “deserves” that imaginary man and she’s going to lie to you while she keeps on hunting him. Don’t be that prey.

I have heard many instances of a wife getting The aging sick husband to sign over his assets and then she never came back. I would say that, I would rather save my money to have a hot nurse take care of me at the end. When my dad died my mom and I took care of him. I’m very proud of that,but that is not the norm.

I'll be 50 next year, and I live alone with 2 bitches. A German Sheppard and a Staffordshire Terrier. I have a daughter I see every other weekend, and on Wednesdays. My older sons are grown men, and out on their own. I have a 21 year old cleaning lady that comes by on Monday's for a couple of hours. I have a huge TV, a PS4, a Switch, a PC, and fill my time with working on my PC and cars, playing with two high energy dogs, and cooking. I read on the back porch, play a few games, grow peppers and herbs, and don't really have a need for anything else. The cleaning lady has a drama filled life that she constantly complains about, and that is enough female interaction to last me a week. Do I miss having a girlfriend or wife? Not really when I look at the negatives. If I invited a woman into my life, my mostly quiet house would be filled with noise, my gaming would be moved into another room of the house, and my leisure time would be filled with endless chore lists. If I get lonely, I'll drive up the way with some guns and go shooting at a friends house, and afterward, we'll grill up some meat and drink a few. Prostitution is illegal in most of the united states, so when the need arises, I pull up porn hub for the 5 minutes it takes to go number 3, and go on with it. I have the dogs, and when they die off, I'll get another. When my cleaning lady moves on with her life, I'll get another. No worries here.

When those days come, I can pay to have someone drive me to medical appointments, etc. Damn cheaper than a wife, and listening to some wife nag and chip away at me for twenty years (like my ex-wife), hoping I'll die sooner so she'll have more, isn't a cost I'm willing to pay. I'm older. After the divorce, I started paying attention to the people around me. Once you stop looking at the world through Disney glasses and accepting what you see 'as is' the world changes. You see relationships aren't a peaceful and loving part of life to recover from how crappy the world is. You see the fights and provocations that go on. You see which one in the couple is causing most of the crap. You realize how small the number of couples who are happy together is. It isn't just because they shouldn't have been together to begin with. Or they grew apart or into different people. One person loves the other person less and is willing to cause upset and manipulate the other person to do what they want. Both sexes do this but it seems to me far more women do it than men. That is my observation of couples in my circles.

There is nothing worse than living with someone who causes an emotional roller coaster ride so they can control and manipulate you. Someone who seemingly turned into someone else and you feel alone around them. Sooner or later most men wake up and realize they married a demo version and now the trial period is over. Wives will emotionally beat you down until they get their way. They will withhold not just sex but any affection to control and manipulate you. Then you realize they love you less than you love them.

Any vulnerability you have shared or demonstrated around her will be saved and used in the future. It doesn't matter that she said she forgave you either. That is meaningless blather to indicate she is done discussing the issue and is ready to move on. They keep a list of things you did to them or should have done, and will never let you forget it. It's the same list they use to justify a divorce and will be used in court. Women don't really forgive, they just become passive-aggressive.

Most of us were raised to believe that the fairy tale was reality. There is a reason most married men tell single guys not to get married. You are getting the best relationship before you get married. It is true for men and women, we are on our best behavior before getting married. Some of it is caused by the hormones our brain releases. The rest is caused by our desire to attract the other person. But the mask slowly comes off afterwards.

If you want someone you companionship, get a dog. If you want to hang with people who have your back, male friends or family that you have learned are trustworthy. One good thing about getting older, as your testosterone levels decline the desire for a woman in your life declines to. As you gain experience observing the toxic behavior so many women exhibit towards men, the desire declines.

Do I wish I had some in my life daily? On one level yes, but I know the reality I have experienced and observed means the likelihood of that being real is too small to justify the risk. And the risk is far too high to recover from financially or legally as you get older. Just look at guys who get divorced just before retirement or shortly after.

This is total bullshit, because if the reality ever became widely understood, society would collapse. No man would ever get married. Things are heading that way anyway.

I'm 57. The idea of having "someone by my side" is absolutely horrifying. Nothing, ever, comes for free, and that someone will turn out to have an agenda, or be basically kind of stupid, or dishonest, or just boring. I can count the number of guys I know in truly good marriages on one hand. The rest are just putting up with it. I sank twenty years into two LTR's, one marriage and one a girlfriend, and I regret them both, except for the children.

Now, at 57, I'm single and am going to stay that way forever. I should have done this in my thirties. I went today to pick up the lease for my new home. It's absolutely gorgeous. Big kitchen, lots of sunlight and hardwood floors. Woodstove. Patio that's perfect for working out. Huge office upstairs. And I don't have to share it with anyone. I can bike almost anywhere I need to go. The idea of having some woman in this place full-time would just destroy it.

That's Point One. Point Two is that the other little thing they don't tell you is that if you're reasonably together at middle age or beyond, you can have all the women you could possibly want, pretty much on your terms. I have a six foot tall Dutch woman, and a curvy little redhead who are both lined up for me, and I did absolutely nothing to snag them. They just showed up, and when I want them to, which I will, they will leave. This is ridiculously easy, and I'm bald and wear thick glasses. You don't have to be alone at all if you don't want to be, and you totally call the shots.

Finally, Point Three. When you're really old, you can have all the companionship you want or need, as well as help. You just have to fucking hire them. My mother is closing in on ninety, and she uses these people. She has a stable of caregivers who help her dress, undress, get into and out of bed, and so on. They drive for her, cook, and keep her company. And she's doing great. She has plenty of company -- these are nice women. They like what they do, and she's gotten to be friends with them. Unless you're actually bedridden to the point that you need skilled nursing, or have dementia to the point that you're getting in fistfights with strangers, you will not be alone and sad if you have money. That's the bottom line.

The idea that you'll die alone and wretched is terroristic bullshit. It's blatant manipulation. Don't fall for it.

45 and all married couples I know save 1 are miserable. The odds are too long for me and I don’t gamble as a general rule. I am self employed and financially stable. Having fuck you money is amazing and I’m glad I went down the path of financial independence years ago. I would have no where the amount of freedom (financial or otherwise...) if I was married. The comment about about investing in yourself and saving/investing for the future are so key.

My neighbour is redpill and mgtow but does keep a GF that has her own house. It’s the best scenario and he is straight up with her... “no marriage”... etc... my only comment to his path is his GF still just takes so much of his TIME... our most valuable asset.
