never say "put it on my tab" and be sure the bartender knows not to put anything on your tab unless you tell him.

it's also smart to use a different name for your tab or what you tell people in a crowded bar; otherwise you'll find a bunch of items on your tab you never ordered. Girl / guy notices you have a tab, talks to you, gets your name, make sure bartender sees you talking together, they'll do this throughout the night, putting drinks and more on your tab.

It didn't happen to me, but in my younger days hanging out with female strippers a few would do this. I thought they were buying my drinks, turns out some poor schmuck they played was buying our drinks.
