Throughout my adolescent years my Mom and Dad would always bring me into their room for "talks", which were about ways that they didn't like the life I was living. Sometimes about sexual things, behavioral things, or other just teenager problems.

I always just left those talks discouraged and feeling shit about myself because I let them tell me what they wanted and that I was going to do it. My parents have always been very authoritarian, either I obey and believe what they say, or im grounded. That's how it's always been.

I just agreed with whatever new rule or condition that they wanted me to follow and walked out with my head bowed.

In my TRP lifestyle change I prioritize my own needs. Obviously I have to obey my parents, but I should have a say in what I'm affected by.

And so, tonight, a regular discussion about curfew turned into a shitstorm. Instead of agreeing that I assumed all blame and my parents were always right like I have done in the past, I stood up for myself.

I didn't yell, I didn't scream, I didn't cry. I just let my dad know why he was being unreasonable.

He lit up like a fuse. He said he didn't care if he was unreasonable, i shit you not he said, "I'm always right and that's how you'll see it."

He got angrier and angrier as he hit walls, cursed, screamed, and eventually ran at me.

My dear mum prevented him from doing anything, but I am 100% certain that he would have hurt me.

He and mom started shouting at each other and he stormed out in hysteria.

All the while i just sat my ass in the chair, not moved, no words said.

All over a curfew?

people get triggered when they get no reaction.
