It is all a learning curve! It is shocking that a chick you know somewhat and will see on campus gave you a fake number. I suspect you may have come off a bit too creepy (it is a fine line).

Its good that you're confident, but don't think of approaches as interrogations. You want them to lower their guard around you, not raise it. Get them to feel at ease, do low pressure approaches that doesn't seem so tryhard for their numbers. Approach with outcome independence, meaning you're approach is to see if they are worth your time first before getting their number.

I like your post. It took guts. This is not the only thing I took away from your post, but being over 50, and having gone to college in the 80s, it absolutely blows my mind that a college-aged woman has never been asked out in person face-to-face. I take it that's common. It's also really f****** weird.

Important thing is that you tried, but this is really rough. Watch some guys on Youtube pickup girls and make note of what they talk about and how they lead the conversation. You should never ask a girl if she likes [Any trait you possess] or tell her not to give you BS and just reject you outright.

Both of these interactions make you look jaded and serious as fuck, both bad qualities. Be fun and easy-going.

This, while confident, is too confrontational. It's aggressive. Imagine what you'd say if a salesman approached trying to sell you something, and when you said no they say "IDGAF, give me your number". You'd probably say no or give a fake number too. Something like "Neither would I, my boyfriend's are all at least seven feet!" Is much more playful and gets confidence across without coming off as rude.

See, I wouldn't even ask if she liked shorter dudes to begin with. It's a question that's answer is most likely no, and recovering from that is more work. Say something like "Wow, how does your boyfriend feel dating a girl taller than them?". It still asks the question, but not directly and as upfront, plus it asks about a boyfriend.

Her response was , " No , sorry , I have a boyfriend . " I later replied, " You ain't gotta lie to me like that . Be honest and say Nahhh , I'm not interested . "

See, I get what you're going for with the "Just say nahh" bit. It's being arrogant and socially aware. But again, it's too aggressive. You're pushing her closer to a no than back to a yes. If you're going to call out her boyfriend talk (which might be true or a lie), you want to be fun about it. Say the classic "Tell him I'm gay" line, or "So do I, but I'm a little bi-curious" and it achieves the same effect, but still assumes a yes and takes pressure off with jokes instead of putting pressure on with aggressiveness.

The first meaningful question you asked her was incredibly personal, although it may not seem this way (you're asking a sexual preference and you don't even know her) and the question accidentally gives away two things to her: 1. you're insecure about your height 2. You will judge her if she replies with no because you're insecure. Just stick to the basketball conversation to begin with. That's your shared interest.

First off, being confident & being stern is not necessarily the same thing. To me it seems like you tried too hard to seem confident and just came off as way too blunt&stern.

You have to have an easy-going vibe when you approach. For example you have to have a chill mode and a smile. You have to make them invest in the conversation and not feel intimidated by the situation. So ask a question for ex. do you know a good place to bla bla around here, or compliment on something they have on them so that they won't perceive you as a threat and just raise their guard.

Aside from reading the sidebar, another advice to you would be watching the video on how to approach girls from howtobeast. Just to get an idea what easy-going&confident is.
