No, you've got that wrong. Star Wars has already lost its fanbase quite some time ago. I know hardcore Star Wars fans who give a shit about the new Star Wars, just like I as a Trekkie give a shit about Star Trek anymore. They just can't be bothered anymore.

Seriously, apart from a reboot, there is not much they can do anymore. How could one possibly repair the damage that is already done with one future movie? How do you repair the fact that the most iconic characters have been killed off, that the story now has plotholes as big as a Death Star and that the whole franchise has turned into a cesspool of propaganda?

How do you repair the fact that the people who kept Star Wars alive for several decades now feel so utterly alienated and even ostracised that there is no way of convincing them to come back?

Hell, even when I talk with people who are no Star Wars fans by far about what movies they have seen or want to see, most of them by now told me that they are not interested into seeing another S(j)W movie, because they have become so ridiculous.

Maybe losing a franchise that once was a billion dollar cash cow will teach Disney et al. a lesson or two, but Star Wars is as dead as Luke Skywalker.

The original Star Wars was a reaction to all the irony-laden, psychological, slow-moving science fiction films of the 1970s, like “Dark Star,” “Silent Running” and “Solaris.”

It was meant to satisfy the yearning of moviegoers for a return to the kind of swashbuckling they hadn’t seen much of since Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers, with a mythological overlay.

It was never meant to be a platform for social protest. That has always been more the province of Star Trek, especially the original series.

For Kathleen Kennedy to attempt to subvert the series’ original aim — to entertain, nothing more and nothing less — and turn it into a vehicle for a social justice agenda amounts to heresy. The fans reacted exactly as they should have.

It’s how I felt when I woke up one day and found that my favorite underground rock station had switched to a Latino format, or when Bob Irsay moved the Colts from Baltimore to Indianapolis in the middle of the night: betrayed.

Honestly it’s so much dumber than people realize. I did a huge write up on my “happy” account that I wish I could share here, but Episode 8 tossed that franchise into a fire. You can argue surface shit all you want, but that movie was destroyed on a Jungian level.

Basically, they spent entire movie blue-balling the hero’s journey. “AWWW YEAH! SAVE THE DAY AND GET THE GIRL ... or not. I guess ...”

There’s probably 20 of those moments.

That entire fucking movie was excitement followed by “or not ... I guess”. So by the time you leave the movie, you’re enraged but not fully sure why.

They gotta just fucking reboot the whole thing. They left themselves nothing for 9.

The entire plot of star wars is full plot holes and inconsistencies, plus they've killed off a lot of iconic characters and replaced them with people no one cares about.

If they're gonna make another star wars movie set it in the old Republic or something. They ruined the current timeline, a timeline that took decades to build up in a few years.

First thing I'll do is tell all the everyone fans or movie makers to leave the mistakes of the past behind and that the Star Wars Universe is getting a do-over, with a reboot around the three original movies after a hiatus to create a new starwars bible is created for 10 movies, with the focus on producing one movie every year for a decade, alternating between prequel and sequels, along with recasting the characters from the original series.

Only the original trilogy was gold.

All other films in the saga are trash.

Lucas almost ruined the originals too. Only magic or somehow the elements came together to make those masterpieces.

The prequel trilogy is utter trash and proves Lucas doesn't have it anymore. Glad he's out of it. Read an interview recently where he said if he was in charge of the new trilogy he would have focused on the midi-chlorians or some BS used to describe the Force. All mystique about the original trilogy DESTROYED.

And this new trilogy is utter trash marinated with fresh diarrhea. Star Wars is now doomed and on its dying breath thanks to this crap.
