I believe the caption was something along the lines of "For every dollar my boss makes I make a dime, that's why I sell pics like this online". Some dumb shit like that.

At Wimbledon the female champion gets paid the same as the male but play a best of three sets instead of the males best of five sets. So the male works longer and gets paid the same. Also note less people watch women’s tennis. I wouldn’t think the same for beach volleyball.

Isn't this more likely an issue of pay opacity? I mean, nobody really knows what each other are making and the range of pay scales for jobs is usually very very wide. This is done intentionally because it's good for companies, because they can pay less for people that don't negotiate a higher salary. And in general, I think it has been shown that females only have lower pay because they are less likely to negotiate or ask for a higher salary.

Complaining about the shockingly high CEO pay seems to common, but does anyone know how salaries ended up being so high? Transparency! There was some law passed stating executives had to publicly report their pay, and then every other Tom, Dick, and Joe CEO decided that they weren't getting paid enough and started demanding more and more pay.

A pay transparency law would probably be the best thing ever for income equality.

Another thing I NEVER see mentioned is that women will most likely to know what their husband makes per year, and only 13% of marriages are women older than men, and age generally is a factor in earning more, so women will generally be earning less than their husbands, further leading them to believe that there is a gender gap in pay.

Your pay is based upon the following factors.

How much education is required for that profession?

How much demand is there for that profession?

Does this profession require you to travel?

Is your profession dangerous or life threatening?

Is there overtime or weekends involved?

All of these factors play a role in how much you get paid.

Men are more willing to travel, work overtime and do dangerous professions thus the potential to get paid more is way higher.

How many women are willing to do what I just said with travel, overtime and working dangerous professions?

Not many.

I'd have more respect for women if they just grind and push through it like the men do but they don't on average.

Sure you might get a few exceptions to this every now and then but not often.

Women on average don't work as many hours as men do.

Women call in sick more than men do.

Women on average aren't willing to work overtime.

The list goes on.

You get what you put into it.

Simple as that.

I know that for me to get paid $100K+/year as a Welder that I have to travel a lot, work overtime and put my life on line because it's dangerous depending on what and where you are welding.

The #1 reason for the pay gap is many women intentionally choose less demanding careers despite having similar educational backgrounds.

Take a girl and a boy from the same high school, who go to the same college. Why does she choose to be a teacher or a nurse or work in marketing, while he chooses to work in finance or accounting?

Then take a girl and a boy who go to the same high school, same college, same law school. Why does she choose to be a public defender or work for the state, while he chooses a private firm?
