Edit: I realize that this post was AGAINST this procedure. It just blows my fucking mind that with all the information available, so many people still don't understand this basic piece of female anatomy.

Yep. It’s mainly practiced in its most brutal forms in Eastern Africa. This horrible tradition is cultural so people of all religious groups or even those without a religious group perform it. The WHO website states that no religious scripture commands FGM, but some who perform it attempt to justify it with their respective religion.

The worst types of FGM are infibulation and removal of the clitoris. It’s horrifying. I know a lady who had it forced upon her as a child and she made sure her daughter didn’t get it. And now they’re starting to prosecute FGM in Egypt and Sudan thankfully but ofc uneducated people in rural areas try to continue the practice. But hopefully with time these women will no longer suffer from this heinous crime.
