He doesn't love her, it's as simple as that. He is, however, perfectly content to use her for sex and a place to stay while he presumably rents out the condo that he owns, thereby making even more money out of the situation.

He doesn’t love her and isn’t serious about her. Period. He’s using this time to keep his own bills to a minimum all while renting out his condo and presumably making a profit.

If he actually loved her he would WANT to contribute more to help her get ahead because he sees a future with her.

I hope she smartens up and kicks his cheap ass out of her place.

I don't understand how people don't get how he is the ass hole! Ill give you an example:

2 humans are going on a 2 day hike. I own 2 apples and my partner owns 4 apples. The tax to cross the bridge is two apples. Should we split the cost and I have to make one apple feed me for 2 days? Whilst he still has 3 apples to last him 2 days?

When i was with my ex, who was decidedly not the man i wanted to spend the rest of my life with, we'd get groceries and we'd split it roughly 70/30 him/me. He is a 340lb man who eats like a fucking horse, and ate more food in a week and a half than i did in a month, and i was 130lb woman (now 160 rip) that has always had to be suuuupeer careful with spending due to not making much money. and his spending/buying habits (for food) were not something i could keep up with. so i flat out told him that i would not be paying for all the groceries, or even half. he always acted like it was suuuuch an overreaction on my part, but i knew what the realities of the situation were

She agreed to it going in it sounds like and now wants to change it and he said no.

This is a valuable lesson for us and a hard lesson for her.

Start with the standards you want going in, because it will be more challenging to come back later requesting more.

Esp when it comes to living together.

Maybe she didn’t realize she wanted more but she knows now and will know for the future that 50/50 is a scam.

Good luck to her. She played herself but it seems like she realized that when she added up all the unpaid labor (cleaning, performative sex, cooking, performative emotional labor, performative femininity and padding his ego, etc) on top of her regular job 9-5 job it is not 50/50.
