I've done this.

We were fk buddies for a year or two (my choosing) and when I moved on, he'd keep referring to "the relationship we had." He literally thought we were in a relationship...which goes to show most LVMs will put in the least amount of effort into a relationship.

I kept reminding him we had no relationship lol hence why I act so differently with my now boyfriend
