Eh, there are rapists out there with wives, gfs, FWB, etc so I’m not sure that rape can be distilled down to that theory.

Nope. Interviews done on rapists actually reveal that they're much likelier than any other type of criminal (murderers included) to show no remorse or even feel no accountability for what they do--and unsurprisingly tend to have a much lower opinion of women. It isn't like they're saying "no women wanted me and I was desperate." Many try to blame the victim.

Not just incels. There are guys who are conventionally attractive, they have girlfriends, but they rape other women as a power play for sick kicks.

There's a load of different reasons why guys do it and lots of different guys who do it. Look at the sport star and celebrity guys who are accused of rape multiple times. They have no problems attracting a woman in a normal way, but they choose to rape.

I’m assuming you’re talking about straight men specifically. I think the urge to rape is such a broad spectrum psychologically so I don’t think it’s just an incel coping mechanism.

I think it's a "men's rights" fantasy theory. They want us to buy it so we'll couple up with incels for the sake of a safe society. 🙄

Most rapists can and do get laid voluntarily. They just hate women, and get off on the violence and power and degradation of forced sex.

No. First of all, that implies that somehow men “need” to have sex in order to survive. People can survive celibacy.
I also don’t like the dangerous implication that forcing women to have sex with men will somehow lower the prevalence of sexual assault. It wouldn’t.

I am reminded of the example of Darren Sharper... professional football player, good looking, a solid career making millions of dollars. He still decided to be a serial rapist and is now in jail for 20 years... but only after repeatedly raping women even while under investigation for previous rapes (so he could have gotten away with the shit if he wasn't so bold with it). It's NEVER about sex or an inability to access it. It's about control, and males that are aroused by abusing and degrading women. Incels are no different.

Perhaps it's more like the incel-type mindset is a rapist's coping mechanism. It's a lot easier to justify being a bag of human shit if you can rationalize that you're being ViCtImIzEd By SoCiEtY in some way.

~1/2 of reported rapes by women are perpetrated by their intimate partner, so I really don't think there's much merit in deeming it an 'incel coping mechanism'

Men who are in relationships with regular sex (married, coupled, etc) rape. Rapists come from all walks of life and don’t all look like ‘incels’ or ‘neck beards’. Celebrities rape. Famous athletes. Musicians. These people have access to sexual partners and are appealing to others. Yet they choose to rape..

Rape is about power and depersonalization, is ego centric, depraved and narcissistic. Women also rape, so let’s not for a second buy into the idea that rape is in any way caused by being ‘denied’ sex by women...That’s a red herring and takes away the reality that human beings, overwhelmingly male, feel they can hurt others for their own gain. It would mean that men need sex in order to ‘behave properly’ and makes it a woman’s issue to fix.

Rape is a choice. It’s not a reaction. As it’s, again, overwhelming men who are the perpetrators, it’s up to men to be real about the depravity and make changes.
