He must have been an ultimate NVM or she was the OG Queen Supreme because divorces in the 1940's were heavily frowned upon and the cultural shame/taboo surrounding divorce made it rare a woman would initiate a divorce unless there was a v good reason. Even today women feel such shame "not making it work" that it's a process getting them to cut the cord, myself included.

I’m so glad to hear that at least some women back then were able to get divorced if they needed to. My grandma got divorced in the early 1950s with one son. I don’t know the story of why, but she got remarried to my grandpa who took in her son like he was his own.
Sadly, that story repeated itself twice—my mom got divorced at 25 with a 3 year old daughter, and a few years later my younger dad married my mom and treated my half-sister as his own. I got divorced at 26 with a 5 year old daughter. I haven’t remarried yet, but I hope to and their stories provide me with the hope and encouragement that it can be done.

My great grandma got divorced from my grandad's father. No idea when but it was before the 50s. I couldn't believe it when I found out. She remarried a wonderful man.

Of course divorces are not great things, one wishes the person they married was actually good, but I'm happy to hear about new partners who treat children of previous relationships as their own or with the same amount of love and respect as bio kids.

I love the casual amused expression of the other guy, probably an attorney, he knows the big act is far too little, far too late.

You can tell by the woman's face that she's at her wit ends and that her decision is final. Love to see it.

Don't fall for it sis... do not pity him, men like this are extremely manipulative.
I have a friend who had an abusive ex and anytime she tried to leave him, he'd beg, kneel, cry, plead, swear on his life he'd be better, even get his family members to call her to plead with her and of course, she'd fall for his theatrics and the whole cycle of abuse and beg would play out again. I had to sit her down and slap some sense into her head to see how she was being used and manipulated. She finally got the strength and willpower to kick him for good. He saw she was resolute this time and just left without his usual silly display.

I saw this image on another sub thread... something history related. No shocker, but he was abusive and beat her regularly.
