If you are getting cheated by your business partners multiple times you need to take some responsibility in this. You will want to structure your business where partners find it more difficult to cheat. For example employee theft used to be an issue for me - but then I instituted more inventory counts, cameras in more locations, and tried to create a better team oriented culture. You'll still get theft because some f*ckers are shady - but it reduced theft when there was less opportunity.

Don’t mix close friends/family with business.

Plenty of people got burnt learning this.

Just because they are your close friends/family, doesn’t mean they should be put into your business.

In fact it’s the opposite due to shit like this and also when these guys underperform, you’ll find it harder to fire them/do what’s necessary.

Also, when you hire them, a part of them don’t feel the need to pull their weight due to them already being close to you.

What bothers me most is that the number of people that I really value and trust, now dropped to three.

I figure that everyone will let you down sooner or later, and in a big fucking way. I can't think of anyone that has ever been in my life that hasn't royally fucked up and betrayed me sooner or later. I no longer live my life in a way that means I have to trust other people too much, because they just can't be trusted.

Hey man, I think it is normal to basically burn away all the fake or unstable bridges, which in my life has resulted in me only trusting my two brothers and one friend. That's it. It sounds like everyone goes through this.

Unfortunately, a red pill we often don't speak of is that most of our relationships are based on convenience. Friends in school are only friends because you go to that school. If you switch schools, new friends, while the old friendships die off. Same with friends at work, etc.

Sounds like you paid a small price to learn a valuable lesson. Imagine those tens of thousands of dollars compounded annually, as they often due in cases of fraud which go undetected for years. You could have been looking at MILLIONS.

you need to implement better money-handling procedures and tracking systems. Make constant backups of accounting logs and invoice logs. It's very easy to embezzle. It's very easy to get caught.

I'd take them to court for restitution, it won't be a large dollar amount but they'll pay it the rest of their lives- also do jail time as in most states anything over 1 grand is considered felony.

Gone through many business partners over the years. Even one being my brother which was a horrible decision. My whole family ganged up on me to get money out of me when the business was doing well.

I feel your pain. People do fucked up shit when money is involved and seeing family do it shows you how far it could go.

Took me years to get back on my feet. Almost ended everything due to that shit. Finally, I’m back on my feet stronger than before but it took a lot of strength.

Go it alone brother. I’m on my own now and I don’t have to worry about partners. Not worth it. I know it’s fun and exiting to have partners especially when things go south. It also helps grow faster but you are better off alone in the the long run.

Take this as a learning experience and press on

I don't even trust myself when it comes to me so I can't imagine trusting others with my money. I live very frugally and whatever amount I make I invest in Index funds and Roth IRAs. Whatever business you had with them is over. Next time don't trust ANYONE. Also have everyone in legally binding contracts so that you can sue them.

You appear to be a cheatable guy. This is entirely on you. What has happened twice will happen thrice. They guy telling to set up cheat-proof systems is spot on.

Rule of thumb is to seperate business and relationships, and when they do mix, straight out let it be known that you won't tolerate shit on the business side of things. This is the 'professional attitude' anyways

Personal experience says cheating happens usually when the other people are much less driven than you.
