I don't necessarily have an issue with him wearing a dress, so much as I do with the idea that wearing an item of clothing tailored for a female body is seen by many as "making a statement". It isn't! It is just bad fashion. It's shameful that Vogue would be so ignorant in their choice.

Women have, for years, been wearing clothing that (at one time) was predominantly masculine—jeans, hoodies, baseball caps, and suits, for example—and it still looks amazing, along with furthering their freedom of expression. However, when they do this, you never see them wearing a man's three-piece suit or a pair of men's jeans, pretending it is societies fault that we don't think that that is attractive. It is designed with a different body shape in mind, and so designers tailor and reshape the suit or jeans to flatter a female form so that they can wear it confidently in public, while also expressing themselves in whatever way they choose.

Why, then, do we force men to wear dresses designed for women to perform that same function? There exist many items of traditional clothing and streetwear that resemble dresses and skirts, but which have been designed for a male body, to accentuate masculine features. They often look good too. They could have had him wear something like chinos, loafers, and a shirt, but with a colourful hanbok in place of a blazer. It would have still made a statement about men's right to express themselves with their fashion choices (and about cultural appreciation), but would have been so much more flattering and tackled the issue without turning it into what is basically a "look at how the patriarchy and toxic masculinity is limiting men" argument.
