I saw a post on that talked about how most men seem to never hold their own when taking care of a household and that really triggered something for me. I'm approaching 30 and have been told that I might be a bit of a commitment-phobe, but here's the thing - I'm not actually afraid of commitment, I'm just afraid that the deal I'm signing up for is not good for me.

I feel like I have had to sacrifice way more than my partner has ever had to, and I just don't understand how I will be okay with that going forward. Every serious relationship I've had with a guy has led to me being responsible for far more things than they were. I have to be the one to bring up and sort through all our emotional issues. I have to be the one to cook and clean most of the time. I have to be the one that puts more effort into my appearance. I work in data science and can take care of myself so I have never had issues with financial dependence.

I know that I definitely want kids, but am seriously contemplating being a single mother because honestly I feel like having a husband would be extra work. I mean am I just meant to be grateful that he picked me? It doesn't make any sense.

I don't think I have very good models for healthy relationships because I have never seen a relationship where there is equal respect and work between the two partners. For anyone that has been part of a healthy dynamic - is this something that needs to be communicated early on? Are there men out there that do put in the effort in the long run? Why is it so difficult for me to find examples of this (could partly be because I've been raised in an Asian country/society)?
