Hi there! I've been lurking for a while and I wanted to share a view about humor and jokes.

You may have noticed that men mostly use "humor" for two things: For male approval and to test you out.
The thing is humor should be a mean to make other people laugh and have a good time. If you're a good humorist you'll likely enjoy to laugh and share those laughs with people around you. It's about connecting and having a good one together.

Now, when men joke to get approval from other men on their shitty actions they mostly reference bad situations, hurting people, lack of respect, plain violence, etc. And know that it's ok because other men do it. So these are not real jokes but hints of a search for reassurance on their awful behavior.

When it comes to women "humor" will be used to test and push our limits.
If it offends you then it was a joke! No biggie, right? WRONG
Tell the dude right away how it is not funny and look how it takes that personally.

If he takes your rejection of his crap humor as an attack then he was not joking. He literally believes what he is saying and is taking offense on the rejection of something that is part of his persona. A rational and respectful person just goes on and apologizes without throwing a tantrum.

It's not about you not able to take a joke, it's about him not able to take rejection or criticism.

So yeah, keep an eye on his humor/jokes. Humor is wide and you can joke about anything, so why joke about awful stuff? Because "joking" about rape, murder, violence, and so on it's not only a horrible trait it's also extremely uncreative. If he choses to do so and whines about freedom to do as he pleases just run and don't look back.
