It’s entirely possible, I have no idea.

Idk if anyone has ever done a good study to try and estimate what percentage of kids don’t have dads genes.

It’s something I’ve thought about before though. I bet it’s something kept under wraps by women, perhaps some of them cheated and don’t really know who the kids father is (their husbands or not) and would prefer to not know themselves. The women who do this probably feel more comfortable/less guilty in clinging to the hope that the kid is their husbands or simply just deluding themselves into believing it without really knowing.

The whole ancestry/23andme/DNA kit thing is still relatively new but will probably become a more popular thing in time and a lot of people figure out this way that they don’t have their dads genes. So maybe in the future we can get some sort of estimate as more and more people sign up to give their DNA with these kits.

Couldn't find the study itself, but here's an article citing the study. Aparently 3.6% of kids aren't from their biological fathers

I don't know if all that's true, but if it were that's social cohesion gone. If it's true though, the fair thing to do would be to institute some kind of standard for DNA testing, so it doesn't happen to more people, because there are definitely some truly conniving individuals out there who'd do something like that.

This study30357-6/fulltext#.Xchefiv5vwk.twitter), based on last names+matching y chromosome, about the paternity in middle Europe (Belgium+Netherlands) during the last 500 years comes to a result of ~1% of foisted children.

This study on the other hand mentiones rates of ~2% Englishmen, 1.6% Middle Easteners and 8.2% Africans, each unsuspecting the parentage might be amiss.

I remember reading a study like ten years ago how in latin america ~10% are foisted children, but this might as well be considered hearsay for I can't find it anymore.

In light of those studies there seems to be a cultural component for the frequency of foisted children but it seems to be rare. On the other hand, if the father suspects the paternity is amiss he has a chance to be right in 15-50% of all cases.
