I'll just throw this out there "because anonymous advice is better than going it alone".

As I've said before, I have 3 daughters, one early 20's in college, one nearly 18 and almost in college, & one mid teens. They have always bonded better with mom than me because of "girl stuff".

My wife actually has a decent healthcare job and the amount in her retirement account is about equal to mine. I can live at my fathers house which I'll probably inherit within the next decade or so. I suppose my wife could either buy out my half of our house or we could sell it which means killing all those memories and familiarity for our daughters.

But what if as part of a divorce agreement, I were to give my half of the house into a trust for the daughters? This is something that I would eventually be doing years from now anyway, just much sooner now. That way they could live there and have some leverage of ownership of the house. And if they want to sell their half years later it's between them and their mom, without ME being in the picture.

I still want to go for the split 50/50 custody, but this is mainly going to matter for the youngest daughter. The older two will be at college, or they can stay at the house they grew up in (with mom) or with me at grand-dad's house (which will eventually be mine)

Would this work? Is it ever done? What are the potential problems?

Edit; I should also mention that the house is paid for, no mortgage.
