Hi I’m new to this forum. I’m 44 and my wife is soon to be 39. We have been together 15 years and married for nearly 9 of those. We have an 8 year old son. About two years ago I built a man-cave and TBH I have spent a lot of time in it watching sports etc. We have also had many great parties with friends. Over the past year the pressures of work have been mounting and I found myself in there 4-5 times a week drinking and watching whatever was on the sports channels. One evening in January I got rather drunk when my favourite football team beat out London rival. I ended up it a stupid rant which my wife recorded on her mobile. After hearing more BS than she could handle she took my boy and went to her dads for 5 days. On returning she told me things had to change and for a while they did. A few months later the pressures of work increased again and so did my drinking and time spend in the man cave. On Friday the week before last I had a day off as my car was being returned (lease had finished). I was a little upset so I got 8 beers and spent the afternoon in the cave doing a little sports betting. The following day was my boys birthday (all kids no alcohol). The wife went out with friends in the evening and spent most of Sunday in bed. Late in the afternoon I decided to have a southern comfort and coke and she photographed me pouring it. She later said that I smelt strongly of alcohol, when I had only had 2. The following day I phoned her because I’d left my work phone at home and got a frosty reply, so I text her but got no reply. On arrival at work I decided to call her again and she told me on the phone she wanted to split and she no longer loved me citing too much drinking, not enough family time and now she is citing no romance in the marriage. I have a good job and have always provided a good standard of living. In addition her 18 year old daughter has moved home after living with her father for the past 5 years and having nothing to do with my wife. I have been pleading with her for the past week, but she says she no longer finds me physically or emotionally attractive. I’m at my wits end. I’ve only just completed £60,000 work to the house and she now wants a divorce.
