I was just watching a film where the woman in the coupling cheats on the man (played by Jason Bateman). However, despite this being the case, he is expected to leave their home. I've noticed that this is part of a wider trend in movies (and perhaps in wider life), where men are by default expected to leave the shared family home, leaving either the wife by herself or with the kids (if they have kids). It's really wrong, and yet is so normalised that it isn't questioned in the mainstream.
