This implies that women can't rape women, which is a total lie because I knew a lesbian that raped a straight girl.

No, nobody was ok with it. It was fucked up.

[–]Subject1928 61 points62 points63 points 6 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

The best way to beat this is to throw their logic back at them. They think all men need to go to "Not Raping" class because some men rape?

Well black people tend to be charged for property theft more than white people, so let's send them all to "Not Stealing" class.

Yeah doesn't sound to good when you change the target.

[–]Run-OnWriter 13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

B-b-but that's racist! Stop with the facts!

[+][deleted] -30 points-29 points-28 points 6 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

theft arises out of poverty. rape arises out of entitlement and a lack of respect towards women. i dont think it should be a 'class' but its the kind of thing thatd be good to teach your own children

[–]mgtowolf 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Theft arises out of entitlement and lack of respect for property rights. I know plenty of poor people that don't feel entitled to help themselves to other people's property.

[–]Subject1928 20 points21 points22 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The point I am getting at is everybody is able to steal, which is why we generally teqch anybody not to steal, not just a certain demographic.

Same with rape, everybody can do it, therefore everybody should be taught not to do it.

[+][deleted] -19 points-18 points-17 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

but certain people have more incentive than others to steal based on their condition, and men are more likely to rape because of the way their raised, so they (we) should be specifically taught why its wrong because the rest of society subtly teaches us otherwise

[–]Subject1928 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Okay so I gotcha, we need to send all the poors to "Not Stealing" class because they are more likely to do it, and the rich kids get to have a studyhall.

When you say "Teach men to not rape" it gets recieved as "Only men rape". I know it isn't what you mean but again the analogy fits. If I said "We just need to tell black people not to commit crimes" I guarantee nobody would hear out the "Well statistically they are more likely to, so maybe they just don't know" argunent.

[+][deleted] -11 points-10 points-9 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

the reason that the theft - rape analogy doesnt work isnt because of a double standard, its because the causes are different.
people can know theft is wrong but still be forced to do it.
there is NEVER a situation where you are forced to rape (i mean unless at gun point, but you know what I mean).
thats the reason that you cant take people to 'no stealing' school, but you can teach people not to rape.
to address theft, you address socio-economic problems, and to address rape, you address the morals of men who think they have a right to womens bodies.
Of course not only men rape, women should also be taught to respect other people's bodily autonomy, and lefties need to acknowledge that too, but its true that men are encouraged much more than women by media and boomers to act in a way that might lead them to rape or sexual assault

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He changed it to crimes in general, because you're like talking to a brick wall, we shouldn't be making excuses for criminals. You're same argument can be used with rape too, even though you deny it, there are lonely men who have never had sex so to get what they want they commit a crime same with stealing, they don't have something so they want so they commit a crime to get what they want.

[–]Dr_Papernipples 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Men are more likely to rape because of how they’re raised.” I’d love to hear how all men were raised from you, tell me how is every single man raised?

[–]MBV-09-C 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So when you have cases like female teachers committing statutory rape on their male students or women who rape men passed out from drinking/drugs, is that something that still 'arises out of entitlement and a lack of respect towards women' somehow?

[–]iainmf 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

rape arises out of entitlement and a lack of respect towards women.

How?

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I mean thats not something I can easily persuade you on since I dont have studies to refer to off the top of my head. But where do you think rape comes from if not that?

[–]iainmf 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Dunedin Longitudinal study found that while most people have some anti-social behaviour in their adolescence, only about 5% of people continue with that into adulthood. Those people have some combination of experiencing adverse child events (eg child abuse) and biological factors (eg brain damage).

I think a sense of entitlement and lack of respect for women is present in rapists, but they are not unique in that respect. There are probably 10x more people with those traits than rapists so I think there are far stronger causal factors in play (like the ones I mentioned).

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I believe sociopathic traits that result in a lack of empathy are probably common among rapists and the most important cause of their behaviour. It's not that they don't understand consent because no one ever taught them, it's that they just don't care. I really don't get why rape should be any different than any other kind of crime in this regard. The idea that you can teach people not to rape is just as silly as the idea that you can teach them not to murder or not to break the law.

[–]Dunkolunko 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I'm willing to guess (well more than guess, give informed estimates) that it arises mostly from being sexually abused in one's own past and thus having no clear concept of consent boundaries and psychosis/PTSD (most sexual abusers are in this category), and other common would include psychopathy, envy and desperation. Additionally a lot of what is considered rape and sexual assault is probably failing to interpret unclear signals of discontent when no clear rejection of consent is given.

Women rape men just about as much as the other way around so the idea that most rape is just "not respecting women" seems a little like a scapegoat to ignore the real issues.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I dont deny any of that actually, so maybe I dont know what constitutes 'most' cases, but in addition to your causes id add all those cases you brushed off as just being misinterpretations of consent, which although are less egregious (like not stemming from 'evil' or anything) still can effect the victim just as much as any other sexual assault. Im not sure women rape 'just as much' as men, although id obviously be willing to concede if true. Im just concerned that we over compensate for the fact its not just men by ignoring that there are so many ways that men in particular are miseducated about consent.

[–]Dunkolunko 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What on Earth makes you think it's "men in particular"? I've seen very little evidence that women are particularly enlightened about consent, at least when it comes to them breaking it.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

i dont know if the numbers show who does it, but media portrayals of relationships and the culture generally teaches men and women to approach relationships DIFFERENTLY, at the very least. from my experience and what data ive seen I do think men get the more toxic ideas in their head

[–]Dunkolunko 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Disagree. Btw CDC year on year statistics show similar rates for women raped and men "made to penetrate" (rape but concealed in data by virtue of what genitals women have). I think given the fact that it's almost exclusively men who have to put in effort and seek out consent to get laid and that women are much less likely to be rejected for sex, that shows just how little concern women have about consent from their end. I mean just look at this, as one example.

https://youtu.be/MSEqchtpTIk

[–]Oncefa2 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women are more likely to push boundaries (even accidentally) in a way that would get most men ridiculed, attacked, or put in jail.

[–]Darrkelite 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can I please just ask what you mean when you say that men are miseducated about consent?

We understand yes, and we understand no. It really should not be more complicated than that.

[–]Oncefa2 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most men who rape women were themselves sexually abused as a child by a woman.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/h9f5kl/most_men_who_sexually_assault_women_were/

Women rape men at slightly higher rates than the reverse, and more men in total are raped ever year than women. Making sexual assault more of a "men's issue" than a "women's issue" if we're going to be petty and not admit that it's a human issue that effects everyone.

Educate your black children not to steal and educate Muslim children not to blow things up. It sounds a lot worse now, doesn’t it?

[–]CaptSnap 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Something Ive always wondered is... how do teachers and mothers feel about this?

What I mean is, women have almost a complete hegemony on children, early childhood education, hell almost all levels of education until you get to college.... did they forget or neglect to teach sons not to rape, to respect women?

There is zero chance...zero..that not having a male role model in early childhood and the lack of father's rights and access leads to poor gender relations for boys or girls. And you can tell feminism really truely cares about solving that, instead of just shitting on men, because of the emphasis they put on solutions.

[–]mgtowolf 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We used to put people like this in a padded room before they got rid of they assylums. Now they get teaching degrees and shit instead. Thanks (insert whatever president did that shit, I forget, too lazy to look it up right now)

[–]SirYouAreIncorrect 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aside from the men cant be raped angle

It is also moronic from a self defense angle... Teaching women that there are criminals in the world is not something that should be frowned upon.

It is likely saying "I should not have to lock my doors, people should be taught to respect property rights"

yes people should respect property rights, but as a pragmatic person I understand that some people will try to steal my shit, thus locks are a deterrent to that theft

Similarly yes people should be taught not to rape, but as a pragmatic person I understand there are rapists in the world, thus doing things to deter and prevent said rape would be a wise thing.

Denial of this reality is very dangerous

That is the one of the biggest problems with Social Justice and Feminism, they deny reality, and want to live in a fantasy land that does not actually exist

[–]Dunkolunko 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

Only the trials of programs that teach assertive rejections of consent have been much more effective than "teaching men not to rape", probably because most sexual misconduct by men is someone attempting to interpret women's subtle cues (since most women find asking for consent explicitly to be a turn off) and getting it wrong, rather than any intentional violation of consent.

[–]Adiuui -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How tf is asking for consent a turn off? Like I wanna be 100% you’re okay with this and I’m okay with it so there’s nothing to worry about :I

[–]Dunkolunko 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ask most women. It's true. I guess the idea is that sex should be intuitive and smooth and organic, and not a rigid signed and notorized event. Problem is that's what feminists say it has to be to be consentual.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even then its still rape.

"I felt obligated to sign the consent form"

"Educate your son."

I don't get this. I don't get this at all.

Imagine a father going into his son's bedroom, sitting down, and telling him not to rape women. His son would state at him as if he'd lost his mind. Rape is bad. We know it is. The vast majority of men hate rapists as much as women do. It's not a matter of educating or not. Compare the mother of a murderer bawling her eyes out and saying "If only I had educated my son that killing was wrong!" in the courtroom. I don't get it.

[+]blackbirdberrybird-5 points 6 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

As a teenager, my female friend was raped while she was unconscious from alcohol by her boyfriend and her friends looked on. We all thought it was fine because he was her boyfriend. He’s still a “good guy” and he “DIDN’T KNOW ANY BETTER” hence, educating men. Cool, women should be included too. You guys don’t get to ignore that women are sexually assaulted daily and it is a daily fear that when we walk outside we will be assaulted or stalked or jeered at by men (I can’t count how many times this has happened to me in broad daylight, with other people around, at public places, at night, at my job, WHEN I WAS 11, EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE.)

This is rape culture.

“But what was she wearing?” “She was drunk though.” Can’t wait to hear what sick shit you people say. You won’t have an ounce of sympathy for this poor girl... because you don’t want to have to simply sit and educate yourself?? That’s how you’re being oppressed?!

I can’t function thanks to the disgusting and sexist views on this subreddit.

I am disgusted that Reddit allows this subreddit that promotes rape culture. I pray for all the victims you people destroy.

If there is a way to BLOCK a subreddit please let me know because I cannot take this page. I can’t. Please sincerely please how can I never see any of this shit I can’t take it I want to jump off a bridge because I am a cis female and I can’t change the way it is in this world. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU.

[–]CorrectlyDismal 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You are not wrong. And there are definitely things that should be clarified at a certain age. It applies to men. But it also applies to women. The emphasis on men, implies that women are in no need of this "education". Where is the equality in that? It will condone the same action if performed by a woman. And I know that can not be the message that we want to put out there, is it? Don't we all want equality? But what is equality. It seems this is often subjective.

What a woman or man wears is not a reason, an excuse to have sex with them.
If someone is drunk, intoxicated their decisions are influenced by that and might not match with the decisions they make when they're sober. In such a case when you are sober, do not have sex with someone who is not because they are in no shape to make that decision. This also applies, to women and men.
You are not wrong that these are things that men should learn, and be aware of. But it also applies to women.

It is not so much that a quantity of us wants to ignore this. We already know this, at least, the ones that already know this are likely pissed off that we're bunched up with the ones that don't. The ones that cross these lines. And we are just as pissed off at the stupidity of these assholes that do cross these lines. But would you want to be held accountable for something you did not do? And that's what's happening here. By emphasizing on men. You are holding ALL MEN accountable for these actions. And that is incorrect. And emphaszing on just men, you're leaving out women as if they are not guilty of this. Women should just as much be held accountable for the same harmful actions.

No where have I seen in this post where it promotes rape culture. There are men that do not ignore women are being sexually assaulted on a daily basis. In other parts of the world even more so than others. Quantity in vicinity not increasing the severity of inidvidual crimes as they are similarly harmful although begging the question where priority for gradated adequate action should lie.

And I agree with you that some of these posts in this sub I do not agree with and are somewhat nitpicky. But there is no question about it, that men, are also human, just like women, and we have rights. And in creating a generalization where men, who actually support women are being targetted as wrong-doers that's when groups like this are created. We want to stand up. To make a noise in saying "Hello, we are here too. We support you. We do not side with those assholes that make the world a shittier place. Please do not generalize us with them. Yes they are men. But we are men too. But foremost, we are human. Like you." The hardship for women, does not mean that we should submit to your rage when it's not rightfully inflicted.

At least that's my view on it.

When I said I haven't seen any promotion of rape culture in this post is because I literally have not seen it. I've skimmed through it all and ran into yours which I deemed worth reading and replying to.

Let's take the whole comment, making the section you quoted bold and analyse it:" Only the trials of programs that teach assertive rejections of consent have been much more effective than "teaching men not to rape", probably because most sexual misconduct by men is someone attempting to interpret women's subtle cues (since most women find asking for consent explicitly to be a turn off) and getting it wrong, rather than any intentional violation of consent."

This person is saying that one way might be more effective than the other. Without a source of data. He then proceeds with a "probably", which in my opinion is room for error. PROBABLY, has room for error. It leaves the option that what comes next has room to be incorrect. So it's similar to an assumption. He says that the teachings of assertive rejections of consent have been much more effective than teaching men not to rape. And THEN explains why it's more effective. Because "most sexual misconduct by men is someone attempting to interpret women's subtle cues and getting it wrong, rather than any intentional violation of consent." Once again, without a source. (Without the source for the data and where he gets this information from I'm already skeptical and will not just assume he is correct. So he says that most sexual misconduct is a result of men misreading the woman's cues, because they're afraid they might turn off the woman. The men want to have succes with the woman. The men in the example he is giving, they are idiots. I have no other word for it. I personally hate hints, clues and subtelties and will not engage in them, if someone wants something, they should be clear about it and stop playing a stupid game about it. Especially when it's about sex because I think we've established that no one likes confusion on that part. But this sexual misconduct he is speaking off, is still sexual misconduct. There is literally no excuse. The men were at fault assuming the clues given (maybe there wern't even any clues). Maybe they didn't intend to rape, but then they should have asked for consent. NOT asking for consent, leaves room for misunderstanding. Assumptions are the root of idiocy. If you do not know, ask. Do not, assume, consent, based on ones interpretations of the situation. Communication is key.

However, I don't think the commenter promotes rape. He doesn't encourage or support rape. But I do disagree with him, and that men who do not ask for consent are at fault. Regardless of not intending rape. In my opinion there is a difference between intentional rape and unintended rape. Context matters. If a person tries to have sex with another person without asking for consent first, already engaging in sexual actions, and the other person says no. And they still continue. Then that's intentional rape. "A" knows "B" doesn't want sex, and they still continue. If a person tries to have sex with another person without asking for consent first, already engaging in sexual actions, but the other person doesn't say no. And they still continue. Then that's unintended rape. "A" doesn't know "B" doesn't want sex. But "B" hasn't shown any sign that they don't want to either. "B" has no fault. It is still rape if afterwards "B" comes forth and says that they didn't really want sex. But "A" didn't know that. But if "A" didn't know that, "A" should have stopped. But he didn't. He didn't premeditate the rape, he didn't want to rape her. But he did. "A" assumed it was okay to have sex with "B" because they didn't struggle and didn't say "stop" or "no". But there was no consent either.

Your next point of critic was to the guy saying "lol". I can make this one very short. I'm right with you on that one. The dude is a dick. It was unnecessary and childish.

But, once again, not encouraging or supporting rape. These words carry charge. You can't just throw them around like they mean nothing.

" You fucks take no accountability. How about you vote some women into fucking office then and stop voting for pigs who say GRAB EM BY THE PUSSY. "

I honestly take quite some offense to this. I have been nothing but civil towards you and you talk about disrespect? I take accountability for my own actions, I am not responsible for the actions of another just because he's a man. That concept is disgusting to me. I am a human first.

Second - I am not from America. And quite frankly I want nothing to do with America. Also, I don't see what it will change to vote for a woman as president. I am very curious, but that is all.

"You all want to have such an opinion on being raped? How many of you have been?" I don't know about everyone else. But I have been sexually harassed by another guy on a train.

I am going to end it with that, because the rest of your comment is simply comparing pains. "Your pain versus my pain." And ending it with childish and offensive language which almost discredits your entire point.

There is no doubt about it that a lot of women face disrespectful and harmful behaviour on a daily bases. But generalizing men and resorting to misandry is not the answer. If you wish to do so and think it is the solution, then by all means go right ahead. But it will just lead to more pain and suffering.

If you don’t educate your daughters that going late at night, walking down dark alleyways, walking through parks at night, might result in getting hurt, rapes will continue to happen at the current rate.

So maybe teaching girls to be responsible is another way of preventing this.

The message here is like saying ‘stop being evil’, well an evil person is not going to stop being evil just because you told them so.

Do feminist think that were never told that rape is bad? Are they that thick.

[–]gunkot 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The funny thing is, bad people will always exist. Going by this sort of feminist agenda will only worsen it for them.

Posters have commented about women raping women.

Actually, I got it straight(no pun intended) from several (L) horse's mouths, that there's a strategy that's clearly raping straight girls is SOP for many of them and it's how they "turn" straight girls to the "Dark Side".

Short version. Get em drunk. Eat em out.

The idea that rapists can be "educated" out of being rapists is incredibly insane to me, and pretty irresponsible. Everyone already knows that rape is wrong and that it is a crime. They either don't care or get off on doing immoral/illegal things. It takes a certain kind of individual to even be capable of rape, and a very specific type of man to even physically be capable of rape.

Ignoring the fact that this is also a very backwards strictly gendered view of rape, it is also pretty ridiculous to imply that men can be educated out of being rapists but that women couldn't or shouldn't be educated out of protecting themselves or choosing better partners. If women know a guy is dangerous or toxic, and get off on that, and then choose to pursue those men despite knowing that it is wrong(often romanticizing those traits in men), shouldn't they be "educated". If those women cannot be "educated", why would you ever expect "educating rapists" to work?

And then there is this idea that men having a sexuality, having romantic desires, or even just seeing women in a sexual manner, is somehow disrespectful or dehumanizing to women. This is wrong. Desexualizing adults, or treating them as sexless beings, is far more dehumanizing. Sexuality is part of human nature. Trying to vilify people for having sexual desires is wrong.

We need to start a campaign to shame lock manufacturers.

By building locks, they are perpetuating a 'robbery culture', where people are encouraged to steal others personal property because 'hey, if he didn't want it stolen, he should have locked it up!'.

We need to start shaming these lock manufacturers and we should start teaching young people not to steal other peoples property.

Deleted my FB account just because I was tired of all the left-wing propaganda.

These posts are right, really. It is 100% the rapist’s fault if a woman is raped.

But as always there is absolutely no diplomacy in these statements and they create an angry ‘men vs women’ dynamic instead of unifying people.

i literally dont understand why ppl are mad over this????

[–]ElderDark 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think because they feel that this addressing men as the only potential rapists out there but ignore that there are female rapists as well. Believe it or not there are people that genuinely believe men cannot be raped except in prison by another man/men.

[–]uw_finest 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

hmm thats a very skewed way of looking at it, if thats the case. Yes women can rape, but this just happens to be addressing man on woman rape which is a lot more common, so I dont understand why these grown men are bashing the message?

[–]ElderDark 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because of what I just said. They think this is a personal attack on them rather than a specific message addressing those that blame the victim rather than blame the actual rapist. I get what you mean, I'm just telling you how it was interpreted.

[–]behrpaints03 -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Man on women rape is probably the most common form of rape. Yes other variations do happens and they should be talked about just as much but I'm just assuming they're going for the most common form.

[–]mgtowolf 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Man on women rape is probably the most common form of rape.

It isn't though. It only appears that way because feminists cook the books, and had female on male rape hidden away in a separate and not equal section in the statistics.

what kinda conspiracy theory shit is this

[–]mgtowolf 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It's a fact, not a "conspiracy theory".

[–]uw_finest 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And how do you know this

[–]mgtowolf 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4062022/figure/fig1/Check the graph, rape and made to penetrate(the category they hide male victimized by women instead of calling it rape) are about the same, and sexual coearcion and unwanted sexual contact between the sexes are also neck in neck. . Females vistimize each other in jail and prison more by a huge margin, and boys are victimized by staff more by a large margin.

[–]uw_finest 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Im confused cause this chart looks like its specifically for inmates. and even then the blurb below reads that females go through things like rape, sexual coercion at a higher rate

[–]mgtowolf 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's on the bottom label, the first section is non-institutionalized adult stats, middle is institutionalized adults, right is institutionalized juveniles.

And the blurb is about lifetime stats(not part of the graph) that only one of the surveys include, and is somehow way different than the 12 month stats. Many different hypothesis on why it is so much different than the 12 month stats, but none of them can really be proven.

[–]MBV-09-C 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Last I heard, close to 72% or so of boys/men that were raped (not counting prison) had a female rapist, and unfortunately, due to the way rape is 'legally defined', all of those that didn't involve sodomy are hidden away in the 'made/forced to penetrate' statistic instead of the rape stat, despite it still literally being rape.

If they dress so little it is simply to satisfy the biology that wants them to mate so they do everything they can to attract man by undressing more and more to the point of being ridiculous. The most stupid thing is that they pretend to do it for themselves, claiming an inconceivable innepsia. The fact is that they are simply calling for sex.

They simply cannot resist their nature.
