What RPW concepts will you pass along to your children? How will you present the information? For those using conversation rather than example alone, would you bring up RP values with sons, or would that conversation fall to your husband?

I don't have kids. But I think the most important lesson I've learned here is not sweating the small stuff. I can't tell you how many friends I've had go nuclear on their SOs over towels on the floor, dishes, whatever. Like HONESTLY, is that towel really worth more than harmony in your relationship!? I think its such a simple thing to implement in life and makes a huge difference.

Communication from an early age, opening a dialogue between us which will hopefully translate into her feeling comfortable with me as she gets older. I remember shutting my mother out, and her basically ignoring me, from the time I was ten.

Choices will always have consequences, whether positive or negative. Taking responsibility rather than shifting blame.

Responsibilities will start early--she has to learn to take care of herself and a household. I look forward to cooking with her! We've already started a nightly routine of putting things away.

An active, engaged lifestyle, which is what she'll grow up witnessing. Her father and I are both focused on health and cultivating separate hobbies.

Positive role models when it comes to relationships and values.

Edit: meant to say I have a one year old daughter, no sons yet. :)

Lead by example. For daughters it's showing them how you treat your man. For sons it's showing them how you respect your man.

I hope to be explaining to my future (unborn) daughter soon after "the talk" that men are the gatekeepers of commitment and women are the gatekeepers of sex and explain all of the logical reasons why waiting is always better. I mean it depends on what she's like but hopefully she will be smart and aware enough that I could explain it to her.

For any sons I have I will probably defer to my husband.

I plan to mostly lead by example. In fact, finding out that I was going to be a mother was the catalyst that led me to study self improvement. I decided quickly that I need to become the type of woman I want my daughters to be and my sons to marry. Modeling a healthy marriage will also be very important, I think.

How to do basic housework - 19 year old me moved away to university not knowing how to use a washing machine and not knowing how to cook, so for the first semester I ate microwave tv dinners. Blech.

Also a lot of ladies have said lead by example - I love my Mum to the moon and back but she's messy and she's a hoarder. I think she's almost lead by anti-example here but I never ever want my house to reach the state that hers is in!!

EDIT: This sounds like my mother is useless, she did teach me a lot of important things, such as money management and that I had to work hard to get where I want to be! And also the importance of shoes...

Agree to learning by example. Also, being a Christian and planning on marrying someone with those same ideals, many of the RPW philosophies overlap with Biblical teaching. So, kill two birds with one stone kind of deal haha.
