Give her enough rope and see if she hangs herself with it.

What that means is basically do nothing. Pretend the male friend isn't there. All his chasing around and stuff isn't going to have much effect on her, unless you start acting insecure, which will drive her away from you and right into his arms. The only thing you can do is communicate how it's inappropriate for them to do be spending that much time alone or whatever they're doing. Do that, and see what she does about it. A good woman is not going to be doing that stuff anyway, so if she ignores your concerns, next her.

In the event that it does have an effect on her and she cheats on you with him, even if just emotionally, then again you'll know she wasn't the right girl for you. You wouldn't want to be with that kind of woman anyway.

[–]AlkaloidSwag 23 points24 points25 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I disagree, given that she's in college chances are she will cheat on you(if you go to separate schools). The guy just has to shift the frame (Easy to do just go to a bar or party and get drunk and flirty). my suggestion is to not make anything of it. However, if he visits, just plan a date with your girlfriend. That's an easy litmus test as to see who she'll prioritize more. if she's prioritizing him over you, go for dread game and start 'hanging out' with different girls. at this point if it doesn't work then you're naturally just drifting apart.

Its college and she's young.

The chances of her maintaining a monogamous relationship through college are so low as to approach zero.

Especially since you go to separate schools. Its just odds and nature. LDR's never work when you're young and college is where the carousel kicks the speed up a notch and women start to "Find Themselves"

I'm not saying to next her or anything like that, I'm just saying that if shit hits the fan you need to realize that you aren't alone and it wasn't your fault.

Sounds like a great strategy to me. Trust, but verify :)

[–]Steelwoolsocks9 points 12 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Totally agree with this. Don't next a girl just because a beta is making a pass at her, that's just what betas do and you shouldn't be concerned about her emotional tampons anyway, they are disposable.

If you haven't already you need to make it clear that you will leave if there is any type of infidelity (cheating emotionally immediately preceedes cheating physically and I wouldn't accept either) and most importantly follow through with consequences. If she still cheats, well then there really isn't any kind of grey area if you have strong boundries.

edit for clarity

Dread-game is good shit and a powerful tool of the machiavellian mindset.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Dread game works both ways (told a girl to use it on her bf, its working on him)

You can use it on friends too if they're taking the piss.

[–]Swifthand1 points 12 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

What's emotional cheating?

[–]Nieben 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, I'm confused by this. Letting her use a guy as an emotional tampon but not letting her cheat emotionally?

/timallengrunt

[–]Steelwoolsocks2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Two very different concepts. Almost every girl has guys that are absolutely infatuated with her who she has no attraction for but is more than willing to dump her emotions on. This is an emotional tampon.

A girl that is emotionally cheating is in a relationship, has an attration to someone else, would be doing the no pants dance with whoever it is that she is attracted to, but has yet to reach the point of physically cheating. If it isn't shut down immeidately it is usually just her waiting for you to give her an excuse to justify her cheating to herself.

[–]Plain_Tostitos 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Still new to the community, although I have some grasp on the idea will you explain what cheating emotionally is?

[–]TRP VanguardYouDislikeMyOpinion 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You wouldn't want to be with that kind of woman anyway.

She's still plate material depending on your preferences.

[–]DeckofLuckyStrikes 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

OP should just start spinning some other plates incase this falls through. It's not cheating, it's keeping your options open. Odds are he'll find someone he likes at his own school too.

OP right now is risk averse and that might be clouding judgement.

[–]carrotplanter 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not cheating, it's keeping your options open.

This sounds wrong from the get-go. OP is currently in a committed relationship with the girl already so I don't think that is an option -- not yet.

The original suggestion of just leaving the girl to her devices and seeing what happens is good enough advice. It's not like OP needs to rush; he's young as well, and if he was able to net his current girl, he's going to be able to get one again, if needed.

Your advice of "spinning some other plates" is nothing other than telling OP to cheat, and that's only going to cause more problems.

[–]defftoned5 points 12 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

This entire comment is the kind of trp gold I look for on a daily basis. No bullshit. No games. Assertive and passive at the same time. The best part is the lack of ego. I know I'm not really contributing but I honestly feel there is a lot to take from your reply. OP would do well to follow this kind of advice forever.

[–]pcadrian 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Holy shit you just gave me gold? Thanks man! :)

By the way, I heard of this particular strategy of "giving her enough rope" from Corey Wayne - check out understandingrelationships.com as he lets you read his entire book for free on his site. I also recommend subscribing to his video newsletter (also free). His approach is perfectly described as:

No bullshit. No games. Assertive and passive at the same time.

[–]defftoned5 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I have so much to read already! Yeah, trp views I guess just came naturally for me. I wouldn't say I'm die hard or anything but I agree with most of them. When I feel that I'm in a spot of true misunderstanding of something I'll end up checking it out. And yeah, the reason I gave you gold is because most of trp is some pretty extremist circlrjerk shit no one gives a fuck about. You handled ops question like a true man of integrity and realistically. I feel THAT is what trp aims for. The silent confidence that a man understands all and is willing to learn. Not the "I'm so alpha I fuck some slut every night." There's some balance that's being achieved usually but you just nailed it.

Tl;Dr you're not a trp "bro".

[–]ScannerSloppy 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What the hell does "emotional cheating" mean?

[–]pcadrian11 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

In many cases when a woman (in a relationship) starts to have feelings for another man, she doesn't act on does feelings physically (kissing, sex), because she can use that as an excuse that they're "just friends." She'll spend time with the guy, instead of taking steps to distance herself when she sees herself developing those feelings. She might even be doing things like resting her head on the other guy's shoulder when talking or whatever. That's emotional cheating.

[–]Swifthand5 points 12 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

So spending time with someone + veeery slow kino = emotional cheating?

[–]pcadrian 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think there's a definition that works for everybody. It's a gray area, and it's up to each man to figure out where to draw the line based on their own set of beliefs.

[–]Swifthand-2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Now you're getting religious.

Is there an objective danger to relationships called "emotional cheating", or is there not?

[–]ont_anon 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. x100. I'm living this right now, but it's gone well into physically cheating as well. I've created a 'Red Pill Only' account that I'm waiting for time to go by so that I can post the story and get the thoughts of /r/TheRedPill/

If it's just a casual friendship, you will have to focus on some inner game.

Clarify something for me. You said he visits her at school and stuff. Does he sleep over at her place? What kind of behaviours do they engage in?

[–][deleted] 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

[–]pcadrian 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

my own inner game

It's a tough process. But I firmly believe that we as humans have to go through pain in order to grow. It's just like working out - you have to break down the muscles in order for them to grow bigger. The mind works the same way. If I deal with an emotional trigger by facing it instead of having the other person change their behaviour to accommodate my insecurities, I eventually grow and become immune to that trigger.

It worked for me. I used to let jealousy get the best of me in the past, but with my most recent relationship (and a situation similar to yours), I made it a point not to act on those feelings, and just stick with the pain to see what happens. While immersing myself into TRP at the same time, I became desensitized to jealousy AND neediness. It was a HUGE leap in my development.

Of course, doing this has to be a strategic battle - you have to recognize when your boundaries are being ignored and you're being walked all over. That takes some practice. Sticking around the sub and reading the stories helped me put things in perspective, so I knew what's appropriate behaviour and what's needy/insecure behaviour. It helped me recognize when the thing that bothers me is due to my own feelings of insecurity (i.e. opportunity for growth), or if it's a legitimate concern (in which case I take action and bring it up to my SO, then see what she does about it).

If the spidey sense is tingling, there is a reason for it. Don't let any woman make you doubt your own intuition.

[–]Swifthand1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

she cheats on you with him, even if just emotionally

What exactly is emotional cheating?

[–]16 TRP VanguardTRPsubmitter 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Based on your story, I'm not sure why you're concerned. He seems firmly entrenched in the friendzone.

He has had YEARS and years to get into her pants. He has failed. She is not an idiot (neither are girls in her same position) and know he is an orbiter. He makes her hamster feel good. He gives her validation. But you are the alpha fucks if your frame is right. Taking her to "dances" and "hanging out" is a beta death sentence. Do not be worried about that. He has had his chance and squandered it. Also, you can safely assume he has "confessed" multiple times to her and probably ended up like "heyyyy, well I care so much about you! I will make sure he treats you right!". Betazoned.

But you are right that any attempt to cut him out will disrupt your RP frame and make you seem threatened. Even though you are empircally NOT threatened by him, any semblance or impression that you feel threatened by him will make it reality for her. Perception = reality in non-logical sexual situations.

So keep your frame. Remind her that she belongs to you. Punish her if she gets out of line. You can be sure he is trying to undermine you behind your back as well: "Heyyy get home safe!...I just don't trust him!...I'm just looking out for you as a friend, don't get mad at me for that".

So the only "threat" you must worry about is a self-fulfilling prophecy: your obsession with him will lead to your downfall in which case he actually WILL steal your girl (Shakespearean tragedy!). Example: you overreact and get mad at him. This leads her to "seek out a friend" some night after drinking. She wants "a guy's perspective" and calls up the orbiter. She ends up fucking him. Although this won't change her view of him as a non-sexual entity and she won't suddenly view him as bf material, the damage will be done.

So maintain frame!

[–]Pushnikov 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're double-thinking yourself into this. You should be looking for other experiences. No matter how much frame you control, the bottom line is you're too young to be worrying about one woman.

Most women are actually fine with their guy playing around if it keeps them in her life. It depends on the chick, but you'd be surprised how much you'll get. It takes more frame control with younger chicks until they see how it is pretty natural and non-threatening to them.

[–]redpill_man 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

However, I also know that she'll perceive any attempt I make at vocalizing this as overbearing and controlling.

Man, listen to yourself. You're obviously very uncomfortable with her hanging out with this dude. Fucking tell her. Keeping that shit bottled up isn't helping anyone. If it was me I would have put my foot down on this situation long ago.

I'm not saying throw the relationship away. I'm saying if there is a situation you are uncomfortable with then you tell her. Put your foot down when necessary. She'll respect you for it.

[–]adamwho 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

  1. Your in college, don't take things seriously.

  2. "Beta" and "alpha" are behaviors, not genetic traits.

[–]iKill_eu 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nature vs. nurture. Behavior runs partly off genetics.

[–]Whyver 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You could tease her about her biggest fan following her around for years and years but you'd have to pull it off with absolutely no bitterness or malice. You could ask her about the president of her fanclub or whatever. The biggest thing you could do is hang out with both of them and sort of put him on the spot and belittle him. Rough to pull off maybe but it would fucking crush if done right. And if you fuck it up, quite the learning experience.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh my Christ "group dancing" - I think the cringeness and the chumpness of dancing in a circle (not with the girl you came with) overwhelmed my embarrassment drive and caused the beginnings of my awakening as I saw the difference between my friends doing that who will never stand up for themselves as men and then those who grab their girl's hand, say "this is incredibly stupid," and dance with her in front of the room.

I have a one itis friend who was fine with group dances and locked down the first ex cum dumpster 6 he could get to look at him. Married now...

[–]drrrrrr 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't worry about it if it's a beta orbiter. See, if he isn't a threat, aka a sexual possibility, then you getting stressed and making a big deal about it will enforce in her mind that "maybe he is a sexual possibility".

Just keep up. I have TOOOONNNNS of beta orbiters trying to horn in on my current LTR because she's at a predominantly male company. The secret is just let them be nice, and you just be the same old dick she fell for in the first place. She literally will not think of them as men if you're frame is strong enough. Some attempt to weasel in by doing the whole "I'll be your emotional-chat buddy, let's talk about relationships and give each other relationship advice". Chicks fall for that trap just like the fall for Drake - after a year of having alpha rap pumped into your head, it is kind of refreshing to have some soft beta music in your ear.

So if you see beta orbiters trying to horn in this way, just acknowledge it happening and laugh it off. She will only see him as a sexual candidate if you are insecure.

Listen man, college is a shitshow. If she fucks around, she fucks around. Don't worry about it, just be dominant and hope for the best, while simultaneously having a few girls in rotation to swing to if one girl winds up cheating. However your GF knowing that there's another chick waiting to jump you... will pretty much make it impossible for her to cheat.

[–]LifterofThings 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If they went to dances together "as friends", and have known each other for awhile without anything happening, I am 99.9% certain that nothing ever will happen (barring his becoming a multimillionaire or suddenly sprouting a body like Brad Pitt in Fight Club). Also, she doesn't make any proactive efforts to see him (according to your telling here)-- he puts in all the work.

Stop with the jealousy and suspicion-- it doesn't help anyway. If she's going to cheat, she's going to cheat, and no amount of policing her friends or vigilance over her communications is going to change that fact; all it's going to do is drive you crazy. There are no guarantees-- if she turns out not to be the loyal woman of integrity that you rightly expected she would be, entering into an LTR, walk away. There are plenty of fish in the sea, as it were.

I have news for you: Your male platonic male best friend wants to plow you, and therein lies the problem.

[–]Swifthand3 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If this "platonic friend" of yours wasn't gay, chances are he wanted to fuck you and you're just kidding yourself.

You should be able to discuss things like that with a partner.

That would be neat, wouldn't it? Sadly it doesn't work in situations like these, where the girl is at her peak SMV and the dude is not.
